100 series rear axle?? (1 Viewer)

The only reason I considered the 100 was because I thought it might be bolt in, and nobody is really addressing that issue except for christo saying he didn't think they were the same. So does it bolt in or not? Are the brackets off or are the spring pads off? If it's gonna be a headache just to get it under the truck, I'm damn sure not gonna waste time with it as an upgrade, I'd throw in a D60 or bigger. But if it bolts in, why the hell not try it?

"But if it bolts in, why the hell not try it? "

I think that's the whole point. It's not just going to bolt in, so why try it versus one that will. If on the other hand, you merely want to have something different and are willing to spend the time and money and other noted difficulties are meaningless - do it. We'll all be interested in what an 80 with different front and rear wheels looks like as well as where you'll put your second spare.

The reason is that it isn't an upgrade so why bother? You want to put in a different axle, do it, no one will stop you or even care. You asked for advice and all including Christo have said there is no point. Now you don't like the advice.:meh:

The biggest draw back is the 5 stud 6 stud thing. Maybe your could really upgrade the truck by swapping in a 100 sereis IFS front end. :grinpimp: Then at least you would have matching wheels and you'd pick up Shotts as a wheeling buddy.

If you just have to swap an axle, get a rear full float and go to town. I think all here would agree, that that would make sense.

hYou might trying going over on the 100 board and ask someone take some measurements for you. It will at least give you an indication if there's hope or if the the measurements are completely off.

It would be interesting to know just for curiosity if Toyota used essentially the same spring and link measurements or not. I'd bet not, though.

Doug, Drew; I understand all of those issues, IF it doesn't bolt in....but when the hell is someone gonna tell me straight up that it doesn't fit and with pictures, measurements, spec sheet, something....

It will not be a direct bolt in.

Ok, is it a partial bolt in? If the coil buckets/seats are in the correct place, then I see this is a decent option for me. If nothing on the axle is going to work, then yea....back to the thinking board. But if there's hope then ok.

I went to the junkyard today to ask about the axle and take measurements, they had just sold the last 100/470 Wednesday, but said Toyota axles are $100. $100 is good enough reason for me to try this, IF something lines up.

it seems to me that no one has tried it for various good reasons. So instead of crying about how no one is answering your question, go out buy an axle and report back. Someone has to be the first to do a mod and in this case it would seem to be you.

So you need to do the research yourself and then make the call and live with the results.

Both out of FSM's downloaded off of links from this site, this is elementary swap research and if it causing you issues at this point...

It won't bolt in. It is wider and the links are at different angles, so at least those mounts will be off. It doesn't mean that it could not be made to work, but I do not think it is worth the effort. Use a 80 series rear axle with ARB and then use Poly rear axles and call it good.

The track width will also be 5" wider than the front. What are you going to do about that.

For a short period, wheel spacers....in the long run, Diamond 609....even further along, matching rear.

Thanks, thats part of what I wanted to know....

.....the junkyard was out of 100/470s, or else I would have measured, compared, and possibly bought.....

Maybe part of the point of a forum/message board is for people like you with the knowledge/know the right resources to do what you just did....and not give s*** about it.

And for the bold, elementary my ass...pretty damn advanced to look up spec sheets for an axle swap...most just do what I did and ASK!!! the right (or in this case, wrong seeing as nobody wants to be kind and just answer a question) people.

There is also the issue of gear ratio's

100 has 4.3 early (pre 2003) and then 4.10 If you want to match the 80 you need a later one, and when you want to regear it is going to bite you since you now need 80 series parts to make it work.

It can be done, but just not worth it. Translate this from Afrikaans to English :D "goedkoop koop is duur koop"
