100-Series Rear Axle-Bearing Issue

You go through those things like m&ms Dan, I gotta wonder how much weight you carry in your rig...

When the seal gives, and it will, the bearing is toast. Not an easy repair.

4-times, 2x per side, since '09 for me; 3 happened to give me the opportunity to address it at home while the other, which happened to be the first in the chain, happened 10-miles outside of ABQ. Onur, Dan and American Toyota were my rescue party

Pushing the diff breather to 1/2" ID and a vertical run definitely helped...at least I got 3-years and 42k miles out the DS.

Others have experienced the downside to this axle-bearing system...and I suspect as more 100's are loaded and used on-trail we'll see higher frequency of failure/issues.

Count me in. That outboard seal is worst design I have seen, one step up from packing it with toilet paper.

Is it this seal you're talking about?
I think i hear Andrew Saint Pierre White talk about the rear seal on the 105 when he rebuilt his truck. They said something about a upgraded seal for the rear axle i believe.
