I think you struck a nerve because you actually have a legitimate purpose for your mods, other than personal pleasure. You may be hearing from guys who wish they could write off their mods as a business expense too.:crybaby: Depreciation is a wonderful thing.

I'm impressed that you chose to do this with a LC rather than a H2, which is the common alternative. It shows you have more class.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Right on brother!!! You get it.
Every penny I've put into buying and mod-ing is a business expense!

H2? I wanted people who really know offroading to see I know what I'm doing. And then there's the Class factor.

Dwon, why don't you just cut the BS and just show us the build up?

First you claim it's for looks, and now you're adding that it's functionality based too.

Make up your mind.

I think we all can wait until your parts arrive and you install them.

OK...here's a wrench! :D

IF....IF I was building a 100 for LOOKS? I would carbon copy my current 100 and not wheel it. The paint, tires, all would look brand new, years later. Actually, considering what mine has been through it looks quite good yet.

So, let this guy build his and drive it around town. :)

Your build is what inspired me to write this post. It's bad arse!
I loved seeing your stock LC going over that rough terrain in the beginning. And then by the end how much easier it goes over it. Very confidence building!

Thanks. In your color....man, a paint-matched bumpered-up rig would look suweeeet!

Its the same colour as mine but I have black side running boards and mudflaps on the front and a slightly bent front corner to the bumper or apron by the front left corner. The steering is on a different side and the interior of mine is grey. It has skyhook active suspension and a [ducks and runs......] diesel engine.
They are nice vehicles I must say and it is nice to see a shiny one.

What are you talking about? Diesel baby, it's the only way to fly!

I own two diesel trucks (but alas, neither is a Toyota) and can only dream of getting a diesel Cruiser legally into the People's Republik of California.

On the rear coils, for Dwon, I think 865s might be a good compromise. But if you add a steel rear bumper and aux. fuel tank, plus all your gear, that might be a bit much. AirLift airbags could solve that problem, yet retain a good ride when the truck is empty. How much gear (in weight) are we talking about?

I'm talking a back full of camera gear (200 lbs) and a roof full of more camera gear (200 lbs). Add two grown adults in the back and two in front. I'm not so worried about when we do go offroad to get to our locations, but it's the trip on the highway to get there I'm worried about comfort. They watch my DVD classes while in route so I don't want the ride to make them car sick.

I'm not planning on a steel rear bumper or aux fule.

Another big concern is safety when I'm just hauling my wife and 1 year old around with no gear. That's why I'm not going to lift it more than 2" (if I do add Tbars and springs) to keep the center of gravity manageable in an accident.

Sounds like 865 will be jouncy and you'll bottom out on-road with that load.
866 would be better IMO and still ride nicely when unloaded.
863 will be too stiff and tall.

Paint wheels BLACK!

Paint matched snorkel will have everyone around town checking you out.

H2s are lame as are H3s. H1 Alpha is a different story.

Business expense build, you are a very lucky person. Call Slee, he will know what to ship you!

Gotta disagree! ANY snorkel has everyone checking you out! :D

True. I need a snorkel. I even have my children telling the wife, we have to get big tires and a snorkel for the cruiser.

I can see it now, the LC on thornbirds sitting in the car pool line. THat would be sweet.

OK, so I'm going to order the springs and Tbars. Do I need any special tools to put in the Tbars? I've heard about a calibration tool, or something. Can't you just put them in and crank it up to where you want it or do you need to calibrate it somehow?

That's what we did....install them....trim to equal lift via drive-park-measure-adjust.

I'd also get the diff drop....even for 2". It only helps the situation.

OK. Had to prep my LC for the body wrap. It'll be in the shop Wed and I'll get it back Thurs.

Took off the running boards. See pic. Like how it makes my tires look big. Like marrying a woman with little hands.:D

Took off Roof Rack. See pic. Don't like the look, can't wait for the ARB roof rack to come in!

What the hell is this thing?

It's attached to the frame under the passenger side. It looks like a freakin' deep sea diving weight. There's nothing attached to it or running through it. It's bolted on with two bolts and doesn't rest directly on the frame. It sits on two rubber gaskets or whatever they are. You can tip it back and forth with a bit of pressure, but since I don't know what it is I wasn't about to go fiddling with it too much.

So what is it? Do I need it? It looks like it will get hung up on stuff. Since it's not attached to anything other than just hanging there I'd like to get rid of it if it's not necessary.

Thanks. I'll keep you posted.

I like not having the running boards.
Considering getting a set of Nerf Bars for $250 instead of ARB slider/steps for $700. I won't need the protection but I do need the step up. I'm looking for black so they don't show too much. Just need them for practical use loading the top (and for hiding the deep sea diving weight attached to the frame of my LC).

Pros or Cons about Nerf Bars?
