So I was working on my 1999 land cruiser this weekend and installed an aftermarket backup camera. The weather was also below freezing and my driver's side door lock froze up and wouldn't move at all. After a quick YouTube search, I decided to throw some degreaser on the key and try to free it up a bit (may not have been the best idea). It allowed me to turn it clockwise to unlock it, but I still can't turn it counter clockwise to manually lock it.

This morning I started having issues where the land cruiser now locks itself as soon as I turn the car off, and alarms when I unlock it and try to exit. It also alarms every time I unlock it to get into it.

Has anyone had similar issues? Obviously my first two thoughts is either I installed the backup camera wrong and have a short somewhere, or the lock is malfunctioning possibly due to the degreaser I used to help unstick the lock when it froze up last night. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Does it alarm when you unlock ALL the doors, either with the keyless entry or by using the key in the drivers door and turning it twice to unlock?

I only have a single key and no fob, it alarms when I first unlock the passenger or drivers door.

It appears to be intermittent though. This morning I had no issues, but this afternoon it alarmed again.

I've been chasing something similar for a long time. Sometimes (or all the time after it rains) if I try to unlock the door with the physical key, the alarm would go off. To top it off, when the alarm went off the doors would instantly re-lock. I have to open the door the millisecond I turned the key and hop in to turn the ignition on for the honking to stop. Very graceful and highly suspicious looking. It has to be short related because its infrequent, but 100% guaranteed after it rains.

...Unfortunately, I never fixed it. I purchased a key with a remote which never triggers the alarm, so I gave up chasing it. Sorry to not contribute to a solution, but im going to be attentively watching to see what your solution is.

I was wondering if it may be moisture related, especially after I sprayed it with degreaser. It also seems like it has happened less in the morning (sub freezing temperatures) and more in the afternoon when my car has been in a parking garage closer to 60°. I guess I'll keep looking.
