yeah, it does. These days the mothfxxxal don't even need to be in the car! It's actually only gotta be near the ignition to crank it.... then it can be taken as far away as needed! Just don't turn off the car or you'll s.crewed if someone else cranked it.

Guess I better hang on to the key fob for half ass then??

in reality this is incorrect. you could use the valet key and add the electronic FOB key over it to use key less entry. bottom line the valet has a transponder so a new ECU isn't needed to function.

iirc there is such a thing as a slave transponder key that will open and start the truck but that WILL NOT allow programming of a master transponder.

In other words, the ecu doesn't know the difference between fob/transponder. Does know master/slave transponder. The fob rc unlock/lock is independent of the transponder function which is a low power rf deal.

I like the security feature that without the key you can't start the truck.

Lastly, a regular key without transponder zip tied to the frame will unlock the door if you lock your keys up, but is worthless to a thief as far as starting the truck. If you get stuck without a knife to cut the zip tie that's on you. I don't squat to pee, so I carry a knife. Right, bodean?

I think you are helping me make my point. I wanna see that "mothfxxxal" try that with my ol Dodge, or my 40, or Sherry's Mustang. We buy in to all these convenience gadgets that allow us to start our rigs from inside the house and turn on the AC or heat the leather seats..... Then we bitch that "someone" can start our rig standing nearby....fine if you want that kind of thing but it is something I have managed to live without so far.

Bossman would have been the one complaining about that new fangled telephone device.....he would just want to walk 10 miles both ways uphill instead....

:D

;)Maybe I wouldn't be so round...;)

OMG! Here's my Lowes key cutting story:

I'm moving to a new place this month. OLD duplex. The door locks are OLD. So I take my key to walmarts, they can't cut it. Take it to Lowes, he starts cutting... hands me my new key, I hold the two together to inspect.... it's not even the same TYPE of key. My new key would not have even fit in the lock.... I look at him and he says to me, "I hope you won't know nothin bout no keys and you take this and quit botherin me...."
I hand it back politely and walk out shaking my damned head.
Fixed

David reminded me that one FOB key is not good as the computer is about $1500 if lost.

anybody gotten one of these 1998-2003 BRAND NEW UNCUT TOYOTA LANDCRUISER LAND CRUISER KEYLESS REMOTE KEY FOB | eBay
Don't know if that's the exact place I bought one or not, but that looks like the type that'll work
Will lowes or the dealer cut the key to match my existing key? there is a thread about programming them so im not concerned with that....any experience with this.
Do NOT got to Lowe's and no need to go to the dealer. I had trouble finding a place to cut my Lexus' key (it's the one with the inside key guide, rather than on the outside), and the guys at the locksmith at the corner of 80 and Gallatin (I think it's Capitol Locksmith, but their addresses are not in the phone book) were very familiar with both the functions of the key as well as programming, etc. While I know many on MUD have had success with the alleged "programming sequence," I've never had any luck with it.......now, while I certainly don't rule out user-error here, I'm pretty good at following directions, but I still couldn't get to respond. The locksmith programmed it at the same time I had it cut, so that was the easy way out for me

also I have a digital version of the 2004 FSM but I like hard copy specific to my year to carry in the truck. Is there an aftermarket that compares to the toyota version or just go with it? I ask because I bought 2 for the 40 and the haynes is way better than the chiltons IMO
How about printing the 2004 FSM?

I got my full FSM from ebay for around $100. It's a screwed up print of the FSM, but predication occurs.

I may I was just hoping for a year specific. I know I know they are about the same, but my luck some little quirky change will be a show stopper for me.

My set was used. If you could find a set for 160 in the plastic, then that may be your best price and worth buying. I was not able to find a set for my LS 430 for less than 300. Needless to say, I don't have a set for that car...

Don't know about the one for the 100, but a new one directly from Toyota for an 80 is about $100.......

I'd have paid $300 for mine. I've already saved that in labor a few times, and I'm happier with the outcome when I eff it up a few times before it gets fixed so I may as well have a book so I can see how to eff it up properly.

Man, I'm lost. What does fender flare removal have to do with whether or not someone should help you look at a 100-series

On a 100 series, if it's got the added fender flares, they're dealer-installed. The way they're attached, the rubber gasket contacts the factory "flare" about mid-way. If they've been on long enough, and if they've been dirty long enough, that gasket is notorious for rubbing through the factory paint. I suspect JT is worried about paint work potentially being necessary........therefore, no need to have someone look at it if it might have paint issues (usually can't tell without removing the flare). JT, correct me if I'm wrong on this.....

That's spot on.
