As i was playing around on ebay i was looking at a 100 style cd player, or tundra, camry...type player.i was just wonder if that model would mount into an 80. the wiriing harness looks as though it would connect right up. If it would mount in(the single cd of course, not one with a changer)i would imagine that it would be a decent route to go if you want to keep the stock look and replace our aging players.
thanks, CH05

It would bolt up but I am not sure about the wiring. The stereo are junk though. Not worth to do. I just replace mine with Alpine CDA9827 and they are incredible compared to the stock unit and even some system that are a lot more expensive. MP3/WMA capable, non flip face which should be more durable, 3 pair of 4Volt preamp out.
Circuit city have them for $189 and that is better price even than online price. They have free install too but since you have to bypass the factory amp they charge about $50-75 extra. Once they are on close out and even not all circuit city still caries them. I also got the SPS-170A 6.5" 2 way for $59.99 a pair and free install.

yeah the single non JBL toyota cd players are CRAP! the one in my fathers 05 tundra sucks hardcore. The newer openings are still double din but they are about 1/4" WIDER on each side. I got a 2005 toyota dvd nav unit, used in tundras, camarys etc. and I don't think it will clear in the 80's dash even if I trim it. The newer cd players are the same size. you can read about it here at www.oemvalue.com pretty easy to work with and good help after the sale.

Now an older sin din or double din out of a tacoma or 4runner (98-03ish) will work and sound as good as the original 80's unit.

I put an Alpine as well, 7998...much better than any toyota brand.
