So, we have been 100 owners since the summer of '03 and it has been loads of fun. With my son coming of driving age, and since he is my sidekick when going off-roading I have been looking for something of a project truck that the two of us could enjoy, plus it could be something that he could drive and in time, inherit. (Plus the :princess: won't let me mod the 100)

Along came this '95 80 at a local dealer. I thought we were just getting out of the house, after a full week of working 12s to just enjoy some down time. We test drove it and then test drove a '98 4Runner, just for comparison. My son has wanted a 4Runner for quite sometime. After driving both, he wanted the Land Cruiser... of course.

Overall, it is in really great shape. No rips in the leather, no huge stains in the carpets. No dents, dings, or any major external damage. It has all of its original panels (checked VINs) and hey, what's this little dial on the left of the steering wheel? Oh, yes, it has LOCKERS!

Of course, there are a few small things that need attention:
Hood struts - have already bonked my head while looking into the next item.
EGR - Right now, it is throwing the P0402 code. I have downloaded the FSM (96 version) and will be getting into that one.
Power steering leak - small, but I don't like leaks, so it is on the list.
Doors - need all new motors on windows and door locks. No big. I figure, I will buy motors, if I can find them and replace them one door at a time.
Rear quarter sliding windows - need a bit of lube!

Other than that, it needs all weather floor mats (Weather Tech!) and regular base-lining.

Here are some photos to enjoy!

Nice find. Looks really clean, and should be a great project for you and the boy. I'm looking forward to that kind of project in about 15 years (check out the avatar pic...)

Hey, just a note on the windows, if they are slow going up and down it may not be the motors. The runs might be dried out and due to be replaced. This can make a surprising difference.

I will look into the runs (sounds kinda funny). I am all about simple fixes!

Sometimes all they need is a good shot of dry silicone lube, though. Try that first, then if little improvement go for new runs.

wow really? runs? mine have a tough time going up and down, and when its cold outside, i have to pull the window to help...
can you link me a thread to fix this? im a retard at searching through the threads...

sorry to hijack; very nice find!!! im sure your son is ecstatic!

im actually thinking of buying another 80 with lockers and transfering over all the gear to the 'new' 80. my poor 92' has had a rough life.

f'n no brainer.. grats on the 80

Looks nice to me!

Outstanding

Way too cool  Looks like an outstanding find. Much better than what I've seen locally in CA

Let's see - your 100, now an 80, and I'm bringing the FJ Cruiser, I wonder what we'll be doing over the Xmas break ;)

Thanks guys. I thought the same when I saw it and knew how hard they are to find in this condition. We kept the purchase a surprise from my son until we had it in the garage and then sprung it on him. His eyes were the size of saucer plates! He now wants his own log in on the MUD! LOL!

As for the MUD sticker, that was exactly what my wife said too! I guess I will be ordering another!

I bought my wife a LX450 with lockers because we need off road capabilities (we live on a land locked 1/4 section and it was too wet this past year to build the road in).

How do the off road capabilities of the north american 100's compare to the 80s?

Very nice find indeed, same color and everything! I am sure your son is extactic, I would be. I have been trying to convince :princess: that our garage needs to look much like yours!

Have fun!

I have not had the chance to get the 80 out and try the lockers as of yet, given that I picked it up a week ago today. I had planned on going out last Saturday, but things came up. We have family coming up during the holidays and I am hoping to get it out at that time and really try out the lockers to compare them with the ATRAC in the hundy.

Regarding the hundy and its capabilities, I have been amazed. It has taken me everywhere I have asked it, but I am not what most would call a hard core wheeler either. We have not been on rocks too much just a little last summer but we have had it in mud and snow and it performed flawlessly. It will be really cool to be able to compare the two. One thing to note about my hundy is the tires that I have on it - Cooper S/Ts - siped. They are very aggressive for an AT and have worked wonderfully in the snow.

I am also looking forward to being able to go out with my son, each in their vehicle and enjoy the days out exploring. I think the 80 needs a CB... hum..... Christmas anyone? :grinpimp:

LOL! Of course, this was before my :princess: got home with her Lexus. She, of course, prompted for HER parking spot!

JTSeed - Looking forward to having you and the missus up. We may even be able to coax the girls to take the hundy, while 1 we play with our new toys! I know Averi had a blast when I let her drive in the Sierras last summer! I am polling the NW Cruisers regarding their location suggestions. Last Saturday, they headed down to Silver City and ran into closed roads, but looking at the photos, it looked like they found some fun anyways.

Are you going to build it up or try and leave it stock?
