I see they come pre-rusted...

I have a set of wheel well tops from the same line. Poorly made, and were rusted when I unboxed them. I would make sure to treat all the seams with something to kill the rust, then seal the bottom completely or that tub will rust out in 5 years...

Don't forget to add some metal backing to any thing you bolt through the tub.

Good luck!

I have the do it yourself version of a 3/4 tub (individual parts) from the previoulsy un-named source. At first I was very disappointed, but realized that like everything else on my cruisers....its going to take a bit of "fit and fab."
So now that I have the 76 ready for the summer, I can get back to the media blasting on the frame of the 79...who knows, by June I might be ready for paint...depends on how well my "FAB work goes.
Has anyone tried ccot's "new improved fenders?"

The body man actually left it outside:confused:, hence the "pre rust". He plans on blasting the whole thing, he then will use some poly (du pont) as an under coat. And of course my kids broke my camera(cheap but still) so I can't get any pics of the progress.
I will keep it updated however.

I take it your father never worked in the body business. My father's been doing it for over 50 years, and I've been doing it for almost 15, and I've heard the same thing from too many people. I once had a friend who held the same contempt for our pace come down and help out for the day. He changed his story quickly, and he was only wet sanding (very badly at that) the 1/4 on a honda civic. It is a time consuming process, and if you want it want done right it's going to take time. Anytime I've done any substantial resto work for a person that's one of the first things I let them know. We usually cut down on the cost for the time factor, and most guys don't have $8000-$10000 to fork out in one lump sum for a mid-level resto. just my 2 cents:grinpimp:
I am not slamming the industry as a whole. Just that this guy has my rig only... I know it takes time, and I expect it to. Just want some progress.

looking at your pics, you have a rear sill, it's just the sill for the earlier half doors and tailgates.

Just got off the phone today with the body man. Good news- I am getting my rig back in 2 weeks. Nuclearemon- After investigating(body man talking now), he discovered that this tub was for a tailgate, etc.=you are correct. Nice catch.

On a different note. When talking to the vendor, they did mention these tubs(mainly used in South America) run with no tops. It would have been nice had the vendor told me the issue with the tailgate thing.

So the first words out of the body mans mouth were,"I will never do another landcruiser again!" So My new grade for the 1/2 tub is a D-, borderline F.

This guy is a head guy a major dealership and does alot of hot rods, etc. He said, if I were going to do this again, opt for that 3/4 tub. I think maybe quality patch panels would be better. Who knows. He did take a step by step chronological pic deal, which I will put on my build thread.

It is a damn shame all of this bs had to happen. Next time maybe I will buy one already redone, or opt for aluminum. Never the pos 1/2 tub...NEVER AGAIN.

I got one of Paul's 3/4 tubs before the switch to CCOT. While it was far from perfect, it sat for months at the first body shop through a hot southern summer without showing one speck of rust (while my tools aren't so lucky).

Pictures of the finished product can be seen here. <--link

Any pics of final product?

I have the same 1/2 tub.
Just got these down loaded.
Notice the "lack of" certain captive nuts, as the body man decided to drill holes and "bolt" the spare tire carrier to the rear 1/4 panel. I also have to drill thru the pillar(not shown) to mount my rear seat brackets.

Was told to drill with a 12" bit all the way thru instead of using nut inserts. I also have to drill for holes for marker lights etc,. It looks great. Also notice the seam by the reflector... That is a stock seam in this particular 1/2 tub.

Is it just me,or either the roll bar is mounted wrong,or the ribs in the fenders don't line up right?:hhmm:

I was planning on using the nut inserts. Was this not recommended?

Could the body man not fill the seam on the rear quarters? Again, this i what I was going to do.

Looks good!

I am just not sure a seat bracket should be mounted this way. Not sure if they would be strong enough, then again I could be wrong. And the body man should have filled that. he also did not install the body mounts where the bolts go thu the top of the 1/2 tub . Located just inside rear tires. I pointed this out to him, and he says it should be fine:eek:. Unreal.

Put in a backingplate for the carrier bolts or you will be sorry there is alot of weight pulling on those top carrier bolts when you are offroading
