Has reared it's ugly head, how's everyone fairing?

Found a great score today. APS is cleaning an utility easement and just rough cutting before the D-10's come in. My neighbor and I hauled 6 truckloads (3ea) today..

Mixed Emory (red) and Scrub (turbinella) oak without touching a saw..:)

Mesquite (I only burn this for cooking).

Only casulty, the Duke suffered a pinhole in a sidewall.:bang:

Yea, I have to go get a forest service permit and go cut some this year. Previous years I've had enough beetle kills on my property, or found other places to cut (craigslist, neighbors, etc.). But not this year so far.

I envy your hardwood - all we have here is pine & aspen. Though it is alot lighter!

Just finished yesterday. I cut enough last summer for last winter and this winter. It was all Larch and Doug fir. I split it all in May/June and brought up 3 big trailer loads on Sat and two yesterday. My woodshed is full and I can relax and work on other projects now. :D:D:D

On another note, I have been piling firewood in lengths for next year. I have a lot of Lodgepole, some birch, and some Larch/Doug fir leftovers. I intend to take my Dodge and M105, both with racks, into an area where I know there's tons of blowdown Larch and Doug Fir next summer. I can get 4 cords/load that way. I'll probably do that a couple of times.

Suprised you cant get ahold of some juniper in your area, wish it grew near us..

How does Larch burn, (the deciduous conifer, right?).

Yeppers. Western Larch is the only conifer to drop it's needles yearly. Larch and Doug fir are the highest BTU and least ashy up here. Larch is rated at 22.3 BTUs and DF is 20.6. Lodgepole is 17.5. I think your hardwoods have higher BTU ratings than that, but you have to burn what you can get up here.

I thought one of the variants of Sequoia droped it's needles as well..

The only other one I know of in the US is the Bald Cypress from the SE states, and one from China, IBIC, Metasequoia or Dawn Redwood..

yeppers, dawn redwood was it.

Another productive weekend, this pic x3..

Damn, these pics are making me want to go outside split some wood now! I'm good for this winter but always try to stay ahead by one winter in case something happens. I'm suppose to go up to Pagosa to get some wood from a buddy's cabin this week I think. On second thought, picking up an axle after having a Vodka Tonic may not be a good idea.

Ok, I'll just sit on the couch and surf mud for right now....

Why don't you come help me cut an' split this all to size (only when your feeling froggy of course;))...And bring siren along, I'll even let him wear his heavy *** boots again..

Way I look at it, you can never have enough, especially if its oak that doesn't go bad. Even the mesquite will get composted into sawdust by the bugs if you let it sit too long.

No wonder it takes you so long to get your firewood in. You're using 2 fords. There's more on that chevy than both fords combined!!! You can but all 3 of those loads in a Dodge. ;)

LOL!
Did you even notice, mine is even bobbed..

Loads up quick..:hillbilly:

Faster to get at the red beers!!! That's the way I roll. Clam-beers, splash of Worchestershire and Lemon juice. Nothing better while getting ready to haul your wood out!

Darn straight..Here it's Tecate (but those sound good)

Stay tuned, as these piles will grow..

Hey iffin' you've got any recommends on a good splitting maul for this hardwood, I'm all ears. I've just got an old head welded on a piece of 1-1/2 pipe..(we blew up my neighbor's cylinder on his splitter), hard chit..

BTW, he's the one with the Chevy, can't afford to buy a new one because he's always fixin' his junk..

I have more oak on the ground than I know what to do with. In the midwest I can't even find someone to take it away for free.
