Just bought an 08 tundra DC 5.7 with just under 100k miles. Anyone have a good baseline maintenance list for these trucks? Search was no luck. Thanks

I don't have an exhaustive baseline list for you but can comment on two repairs I've had to make on mine and share a few gripes and ramblings (mine is a 2010 that I got in 2019 at 120k and now has 165k).

People that only have a vehicle for 100k miles (ok, most people in general) typically don't bother proactively changing things like power steering fluid, coolant, brake fluid, coolant hoses, thermostats, belts, water pump, etc.

Mine came with some records but I have a hard time believing much was done when the dealer only charged something like $75 to "service transmission."
I did a full flush and was not surprised to find the fluid fairly dark.

Rear wheel bearings - one was trashed, completely gone. Replaced them both. Apparantly not uncommon repair. I want to say $150 in parts but I needed to make an apparatus to bolt the hub to in the press to get them out.

Brake booster - I was getting traction/stability lights on and off (mostly on) which disabled both systems when the lights were on. There is a pedal force sensor (and stroke sensor) inside the booster that aren't available seperately. Mine was unhappy with the pedal force sensor. New booster is $$$$$$. I was able to get a used one from a local yard for $75, and install it without breaking any lines (miraculously.)

I am still not happy with my brakes. I much prefer the feel and ability to modulate on my cruisers (even the drum/drum 1961.) I have had a few instances of loosing pedal when towing and don't find pedal force consistent. I suspect it might have to do with the integration of electronic based brake assist and how intrusive the nannies are on these trucks. I need to change out my master cylinder and see if there is any improvement.

Rear brakes - I know for sure that at least 2 brands of aftermarket rotors will contact the backing plates and make bad noises.

Mileage sucks. But you knew that already..

Don't let your kids play in the front. The 4wd switch is too easy to turn, and the indicator light much too small...

Mine came with Bilstein 5100s. It has almost imperceptible brake dive, and corners like a car. Broken up highway expansion joints are harsh. Rough potholed washboarded gravel roads (my commute) are downright horrible. The shocks are way too stiff for where I drive. They work great at slow speeds off road though.

I just bought a 2007 4.7 2WD RCLB. I’ve found the best source for info is
tundras.com forum. There is an entire forum on 2nd Gen Tundras.

I’m not a fan of the sealed transmission with ‘lifetime’ fluid
(yeah, riiiight 🙄 ) - I did a little look & check @70K and it was already turning brown-ish.

And the 5100 Billys are dead trash.
So, so horrible even when functional & I flat broke the lower bar-stock end off the shock tube at the weld.

My Icons make me a happy man, by a country mile.

I’ve changed a few things on the Tundra & so far the Icons were the best $$ you feel everyday.

What size tires and which icons did you put on?

I have a 6” lift for 37” tires, I have the 6” lift coilovers (stage 1)

The most common thing we all know are speedbumps - I’m always in a shared Office Depot & Petco pavillion & I had to almost do the “diagonal creep” with the Billy 5100’s otherwise loose small items would fly out of the cubbies in the console.

It was real common I’d forget & all my pens & gum, phone & wallet (all that crap you just toss in the cupholders) - and have to fish it all up off the PS floorboard.

The Icons I don’t even think about the bump, I do ~10mph over it & the dog in the back seat doesn’t even wake up most the time.

Huge difference.

That’s great to hear. I put on fox 2.0 coil overs front and rear and with 37’s the ride is still substandard. May need to rethink my shock setup.
