Meh, I still think the 100 looks better.

Got to agree, each generation gets a little uglier :). 80 series better looking then 100 series and 100 series better looking then 200 series. I will still buy a 200 series in a couple of years. Lucky that with Toyota ugly is only a surface problem, doesn't go clear to the bone!

nice! but i think my highlander is worth more than your merlot

my other car has a flat six dry sump motor - so how about the real cressida pics.

We are seriously considering a highlander for my wife's dd. The interior of the 14 XLE model I saw is impressive and doesn't look cheap at all. You can do worse than crossing a Camry and a Sienna IMO. It is a solid car for daily living and the other tasks you mentioned.

I upgraded from a Jeep Wrangler to an 80 to have something more family friendly. What seemed like a sacrifice/compromise giving up a stick shift and a removable top to have the ultimate all-purpose vehicle was never really recognized or appreciated by my wife. To her, you keep your "hobby" vehicle separate from your daily driver. To be honest, she was probably right. Then again, she is going to be the one driving it. If I were daily driving it, my ego would push for the 200 series, Tundra or maybe a GX460.

Yeah, I agree. It's got good pep, too, especially after being in the 100. When we add #3 (kid), we'll be looking at the Highlander or Pilot.

There was a thread about P-cars a while back. What do you have, a Turbo? GT2/3?

This will be my first automatic, I am going to miss manual. That third row is just too convenient for me to consider any pickups. I am impressed by all the support for the highlander.

We've had an 80, some 100's and bought a 2013 200 last May. The wife was driving our LX470 and loving it but somehow fell in love with MY new Land Cruiser. I was downgraded to our '06 LX but managed to pick up a 2000 to finish building and take out west ;) The 200 truly is a step above the 100 when it comes to driving around town. It's got all the latest bells and whistles and it hauls a$$ for a Land Cruiser. I really enjoy driving it when I can and the changes from '08 to '13 don't make a difference in overall quality (IMHO). All aftermarket mods are a bear on the 200 compared to any other TLC. I doubt I'll be planning any builds for the 200 series until the 100 become extremely hard to find in decent condition. The 100 does more than most of us need and it's still a sweet looking truck. The only major difference I notice our 2006 LX has over our 2000 is the transmission which you'll get with the 2007. Lastly, for what it's worth, our friends that work at SET bought a brand new loaded Highlander last year (below dealer cost) and traded it in 3 months later for and '07 GX470.

Have you ever driven a new car and thought "this car really isn't great, I should have spent more or bought a nice used car instead" ?

Not to say the highlander isn't nice, I'm sure that it is. Probably is worth something after a few years compared to a domestic as well.

Well we test drove a new highlander last weekend and I had that exact feeling. My reaction was :meh: - feels like driving a Sienna. I am pretty sure I wouldn't drive my new highlander anywhere I wouldn't drive a Sienna. The highlander only has an extra ~1.4 inches ground clearance over the Sienna. It is most of the inconvenience of a minivan without the benefit.

I have driven tons of new stuff and they just don't compare to the 100. I prefer durability/reliability over everything else. Also, it has to do everything at 90% or better and the 100 has all that covered.

I think you might be surprised, especially if you wheel it. I had nothing but manuals until I sold my FJ60. Would never go back...

So I bought...the Highlander. I searched far and wide for the best 200 & 100 in my price range and at the end of the day they didn't feel right. I bought the '14 Highlander XLE and I have no regrets. I am a week in and I really think I made the right choice. I really appreciate all the feedback from the community.
