'07 100 series rough spot at 2,200-2,400 rpm

It seems I have one of those issues that the dealer has no solution for, yet. My new '07 100 series with 3,000 mi has a "rough" spot that is felt and heard upon accelerating. It always happens at 2,200 rpm and starts to fade and smooth out after 2,400 rpm. It doesn't matter what gear or what speed. Dealer has checked for codes and software updates etc., etc. "No problem found". I removed the balance/weight under the drivers door frame rail, was told that it acts as a balance to reduce harmonic type vibration, the problem actually improved slightly-go figure. Was told that it's not really a problem, but it sure is bothersome to have that nice smooth and quiet acceleration interrupted every time by this, whatever it is. Have driven two other 100's, one '06 with 22,000 mi - smooth as silk, and a new '07 with only 10 miles which also didn't exhibit the rough spot. So, if there's anyone out there that has experienced this, or anyone with any suggestions, I'm listening! Thanks

I have an '06 with 16K miles and no rough spots at all. Very smooth. Keep taking back to the dealer. I'm sure some of the other guys on the forum can tell you what might be causing it. Good luck.

I have a 2004 LX470 that has 60K miles and it is as solid as a new vehicle. I think that with any manufactured product there are some that have inherent variations. I know that this vibration is a concern but it is not a problem just part of your vehicle. You can chase this forever or just live with it. I am sure that the dealer is correct that it is not a "problem" just a pain in the butt that pisses you off. My suggestion is live with it and enjoy your LC.

Give me a break. A $65k vehicle billed as a luxury car and at the top of the dealers line should run smoothly especially with a known smooth engine. Just because the dealer is incapable of figuring out a problem doesn't mean you should ignore it.

The dealer obviously recognized the "roughness" enough to attempt a troubleshoot so tell them to fix it or get you a new one. Start up the customer service chain (regional rep ect...). For problems like this they have "master mechanics" who will help the dealer identify the problem. Toyota will authorize very substantial warranty repairs once they know there is a real problem ( one truck on the board had the entire frame replaced).

Every manufacturer puts out lemons even on their best products and best production lines but .... They should be the ones who take the loss on them not the consumer.

Put back the dampener before taking it back. Have they tried all five sizes of dampeners ? Have the motor mounts been inspected ?

Find another dealer, and/or contact Toyota/Lexus regional customer service.

I was on my 4th glass of wine last night when I wrote that message :) I get pretty mellow after 3 glasses. Now that I'm sober, I recommend that he work his way up the dealer organization chart at the same time he files a problem with Lexus corp. If they can't get it to run as smooth as silk they can buy it back or replace the engine. I got to quit posting when I drink :)

100 series rough spot "correction"!!!

Thanks for the input on my vibration issue. I did just notice though that I listed two different rpm ranges that the roughness occurs. The actual rpm range is 2200 to 2400, not the 1200 to 1400 listed in the title, not sure if this makes any difference? Anyway thanks again for the suggestions!

And one truck on the board had the entire truck replaced :D.

In my case, the air bag system warning lights were screwed up after the dealer had a 3rd party install a GuidePoint aftermarket vehicle recovery system. After a few attempts and more than a little bit of insistance, they ended up getting me a whole new vehicle. Naturally the air bags being a major safety feature may have made getting my problem resolved somewhat easier than some other types of problems.

As others have said, the dealer definitely shouldn't be making excuses for problems on a $65k vehicle (top of the line or not).

Good luck, and keep us posted on how things go.

Have sort of the same issue on my 2006 (primarily notice it in that rpm range you note at interstate speeds b/w 70-75). Certainly has more vibration at this speed and then levels out at 80 mph. I have also noticed it around 40-45 on ocassion (didn't notice the rpms at that speed), but not as pronounced at 70-75. You can definitely feel a slight tingle/vibration in the floorboard (particularly the left footrest plate) at this speed, but it completely goes away around 78-80 mph or if you let off the gas and drop below 70-72 mph.

I know there was a TSB for the 03-05s about something called 'fifth gear shudder', but not sure if this is the same issue. I also wonder if it could be tire related. I have the stock POS Dunlaps and have wondered if it could be them at certain speeds.

Have not brought into the dealer yet for this issue for fear of the "normal operation" standard response (which in fact might be the case b/c the vibration I notice is very slight). I will make note of the issue however on my next visit and see what I can find out and will be watching closely before my warranty expires.

100 series rough spot - 2,200-2,400 rpm

Yes, that sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing as well. In my case I'm certain it's not the tires, of course that would be too simple, because it occurs at many different speeds but at the exact same rpm range every time, 2200 - 2400 rpm, and yes, it is very subtle, but is there! And as I mentioned other 100's I have driven do not have this roughness. I'm going to continue to look into this issue and will definitely let you know what develops. Good luck with your next dealer visit.
