I am new to Toyota's and Land Cruisers. I want to remove my running boards but I was told you need to put front mud flaps on to help protect the rocker? Where can I get some good ready to install out of the box front mud flaps?

call Onur (Beno on 'mud) and order some. I think any dealership will be able to order them but it will be cheaper from Onur.

Thanks, 4Peanut, do you have any pics of your LC I basically want to do the same thing you did to my 04 which is get rear spacers, crank my torsion bars and remove my running boards. How does it handle with the torsion bars cranked? Any weird steering issues?

search for me in the picture thread, I have pretty much the same setup

The spacer and torsion bar crank is definitely an inexpensive option for those of us driving an otherwise stock truck. The rear spacer is 1.5" and I've been adjusting the front to find the right combination of lift (appearance) and drivability (comfort/safety). My PS CV boot tore, possibly due more to age and mileage (117,xxx) than anything else. Before replacing the PS CV boots, I installed a Slee Diff Drop and also lowered the front a smidge. I was at 21.75" up front. Admittedly, this was too high (i.e. not enough droop, about .25" higher than the rear although it looked level). I backed off on the torsion bar a turn at a time (in my experience 1 turn equals .25" of ride height change) until I got to 21". At 21" it measures .5" lower than the rear, or .75" lower than before starting the adjustments, and I have 2.5" (63.5mm) of droop. Most would say it "looks" level, though I can see the slight rake.

The picture below is pre-adjustments, but is a great example of stock vs. stockish.

4Peanut, dude that is an awesome comparison thanks for the photo. I will be working on getting mine looking the same way. I can't tell in the photo but do you have front mud flaps? If so wear did you get them cruiserdan? You may have mentioned it in an earlier thread.

Thanks again

Never added front mud flaps when I took my running boards off still not chips in the paint.... knock on wood.

Call Onur (beno). There's a parts list somewhere here on 'MUD. I'll also look for my receipt when I get back to my office.

Edit: Found it! Front mudflap (mudguard) parts list. Onur (beno) is now Parts Manager at Larry H. Miller Toyota in Albuquerque, sister dealer to American Toyota. Contact information at the link above. Tell him 4Peanut sent you!

Note the oil filters are not required to install the mud flaps. :)

I remember writing that invoice....

Aside from the oil filter, are those all the parts and hardware I will need to install the mud guards after I remove the running boards?

I have the mudflaps w/o all the hardware. I don't think I'm going to ever install them. I'll sell them to you and you'd just have to order the hardware and brackets. PM me if interested.

4Peanut, what year is that maroon LC in the photo and what size tires are on that one? I already have 275/70/18's on my LC but yours on the white one look bigger than 275's

Also do you know what size came on them from the dealership?

Which tire do you have specifically? All tires are not created equal. Among tires of the same nominal size there can be both a difference in perceived size (due to tread pattern and sidewall design) but also actual size. My 275/70-18 BFG ATs measure 33.25" in diameter at 50 PSI. The maroon Land Cruiser is 100% stock, so I can only assume it has 275/60-18 Bridgestone Dueler H/Ts on it. Here's another shot, nose-to-nose.

Thanks again, those pictures are really helpful. What year is the maroon LC?
I honestly don't know. We belong to the same gym, and when I saw it parked out front I took the opportunity to take a few comparison pictures. It has the same headlights, tail lights and grille as my '03.

4peanut, is that all of the mods that you have done to your LC, just tires, spring spacer, cranked torsion bars and drop diff.? i think i am going to do the exact same thing to mine. Once again no handling issues after you cranked the torsion bars? Also I assume you had an alignment done?

Thanks
