Found an 01 lx470 locally. 104k miles. No nav. All maintained by an older car enthusiast himself. Interior and exterior are in what I'd consider 'fair' shape. He has driven in 10 times in the last 4 years. Timing belt and water pump changed about 6 years ago at 90k. Exterior wheels are missing much of the finish due to him using some sort of cleaning agent that stripped them. It's listed at 10k and I think I can get him to go to 9 or even lower. Owned in the southeast USA with no rust. I will be checking it out this week. Any reason I should shy away from this? Thanks. Looking for a daily driver.

Sounds good to me if you're willing to do a timing belt service, AHC flush, basic tune-up / oil change, and most likely a steering rack replacement on top of that. Speaking from personal experience ;)

If it is in the Orlando area I can look at it with you. A big, cold Diet Mountain Dew is the price. I'll even bring my 01 LX so you have a comparison vehicle!

Well I bought my LX 2002 with 160k for $6500.
When I was asking these same questions a fella here said: just buy the most recent model you can afford, they all will need work.
So I bought it and did some work nothing huge, had it for 2 years now. Just pulled into Denver from SF, 1500 miles. Off roading in Bishop, Zion and Moab along the way. Drives like a champ 80 mph on the highway too.
Eventually you will need to decide on the AHC situation. Either you will need to replace a bunch of stuff or gut it out and install very suspension as you would a LC.
Your call.
Personally I really like the AHC for what I do. Camping/overlanding/commuting. So I keep an eye out for those parts.
But yes much more high maintenance. If you Swappa out the AHC and get OME/Ironman etc then it's set it and forget it at around $2k-$3k depending.
So add that to the cost.
(I heard this as a buying point)

Seems like a good buy to me. I struggled to find anything as well maintained as yours sounds.

As far as AHC goes, you can replace the entire system for around $1500 and ride on clouds for 200k miles or swap for OME for a similar price and have a rough ride and functionless controls on your shifter console. Up to you, but... keep the AHC! Mine has 220k miles and the I definitely need new globes, but I am not feeling too rushed. Just keep it in sport and have a rough, OME style ride.

As far as wheels go, that is pretty common. Mine were almost entirely black when I got it due to the same reason. Sprayed them matte black and love it now.
