Hi,

was looking for opinions on ironman suspensions for the FJ55. Looks like they have a bolt up kit for the 55 which is under $500 bucks including shipping. Includes springs, shocks, bolts, bushings, etc. Looks like they also make aftermarket shackles and a steering stabilizer. Seems like a great deal. I am rebuilding the 55 as a restoration and plan to drive it occasionally and not long distances. Not a 4 wheeler, more for road and some light 4 wheeling a couple times a year. I searched over on the 40/55 board and it seems that some have complained they are too stiff? Other people posted they liked them. Looking for opinions from people on how they like them. I have heard great things about Alcans but they will end up being 2x the price of the Ironman. Thanks!

Noah

if they end up being awesome, i'm gonna be pissed...going spring over to keep lift costs down.

;)

Did you get someone to respond from Ironman? No current US reps and I didn't have any luck with the foreign reps. I tried the same route for my lil' daily driver. Started with Belton but, the Canadian dist. is no longer a distributor then I heard/read about Ironman... PV Cruisers was/is working on a relationship with Ironman but it was still in the works. Tried to contact them directly and had no luck. So I have a set of 3" lift Alcans sitting in my garage.

The people at Alcan are all pretty cool. You can design the spring to fit your needs, the warranty is out of the US (Colorado), and the product is first class. my springs/bushings were about $900 shipped. I'm doing ubolt flip with the GM plates ($60). Had some new shackles laser cut ($55 + $35 for hardware) and I still need shocks and ubolts (~$200)

Yah. So around $1300 dukets!

so after doing some research I bit the bullet and purchased a lift kit off of ebay, I am not too concerned with having the "perfect" ride as the 55 will not be a daily driver and it was a hell of a deal, $550 for everything including shipping to my doorstep! springs, shocks, ubolts, bushings, shackles, greasable spring pins. After researching other options I saw that maf and sor sell kits but the cheapest of them was 2x my cost and that's without shipping. If you do a search on ebay you will find the guy selling them, liquidator. I will post up and let everyone know how they look, fit, etc. If anyone has questions, shoot me a PM.

You got Pig Alcans?

When are the going on? I am very interested in seeing these...

What GM plate do you use for a u-bolt flip?

Thanks!

Nice! Where was this guy when I was looking two months ago? The price is right, fosure. The stuff I read on AUS forums was positive. I'd be curious to hear what our Austrialian 55 board member has to say about them...

Yep. They arrived late last week and I'm not sure when I'll get the time to install them. I'm still working on building the shackles and spring plates.

so if I understand correctly, those ubolt plates from GM will bolt on perfectly to a pig axle? this would be great if so, any modifications needed, any idea if they will fit a 73 vintage?

Noah

Three will bolt directly on, one will need some modifcation (PS front). I need to make the bottom plates and have some ubolts bent. Should be pretty slick. Someone on Pirate posted a few pictures and the part numbers but never followed up. When I work on it I'll try and snap a few pictures.

The plates fit the housing curve perfectly on my '76 and the earlier axle (70-71) I sat them on.

Here is another picture from Pirate. You can see the one on the far right that was modified...
