I just had to be different with my tires

Hopefully I won't regret it!

I wanted to upgrade the shoe's for the 100 because the General Ameritrac SUV's aren't known for their off road mastery. ;)

So I went with these Hankook Dynapro MT RT03

They aren't as popular here in the states but I know they are very popular overseas.

We will have to see. Not terribly expensive, about the same price as some Terra Grappler's. When they come in next week I'll take some of those all important poser pictures.

I went with 305/70/16. Anybody else have these?

Sweet tires. I went different also. Cooper STTs. Stock 100 with MTs is pretty hard to beat as an all around vehicle. I would like to know about the noise factor when you get them. My STTs definitley talk more.

I thought about the Coopers, look like a good tire. Yeah I'll have to see about noise, i'm not really picky when it comes to tire road noise. Just turn the music up louder. :)

In all honesty it's something to drown out the noise of my screaming 10 month old.

Actually the roar puts everyone to sleep in the 100, wife and two small children. I really like the MTs. Went wheeling the other day in the rain, I would have never done that in NC red clay with ATs.

I had Cooper STTs on my Toyota p'up and loved them, sort of a gentle howl as you drove down the road. I tried to find the Hankook on the web and could not get a price, what did you pay for them? They look like they would do well in just about all situations.

I got them from Discount Tire. I think they just added them on because they weren't there last week. They were $690 shipped and tax.

Hankook have done well in the tests I've seen.

The next "has to be different" guy needs to try some of Nitto's new Dune Grapplers.

well because i lease my LC100 and our restrictive laws here in Oz - my research led me to Cooper Sure Trac 285/75/16....which if i fit that size tyre instead of the factory 275/70/16 Dunlop Grandtreks....mean that i am illegal. Here in the Aussie state of Victoria, i cannot legally increase the diameter of the wheel/tyre combo by more than 15mm from factory.

So yeah i could just buy a set of Cooper STs or STTs 285/75/16...but i wouldn't be covered by my accident insurance or the State Government insurance which is a component of our registration payment and that covers accident victims in their repatriation following an "accident"....IMHO me being ITIL certified "incident" is a better word. Fellow Victorians know this as the TAC. (Transport Accident Commission)

So getting to the point, i replaced my factory Dunlop Grandtreks with the Dunlop Grandtrek AT2 which is described as a "50/50" tyre and is the feature tyre on their website in Oz http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/
and specifically the frame is here:
http://www.dunloptyres.com.au/grand-trek-4wd-tyre.htm

So i have done 2000km on them....they are quiet on the highway....and so i tested them on some logging tracks which i am very familiar with, specifically the New Turkey Spur track (mentioned here: http://www.abcmaps.com.au/RetailerPages/Noojee.htm ) and Google search here: http://www.google.com.au/custom?hl=...ew+turkey+spur"&btnG=Search&meta=cr=countryAU and some of the limitations with the factory tyres were dispersed....these AT2s gripped really well, and didnt hold on to mud (that is, the grooves in this tyre got rid of the mud, instead of being clogged up...so cool..i could continue driving) and i had no wheelspin compared to the factory Grandtreks....and no deviation under braking too...coz really...i found the factory Grandtreks to be ...well dangerous

These AT2s work ok...yeah i know there are better tyres out there...but due to my lease and insurance restrictions i have to pick a legal tyre and for now the AT2 Grantrek is looking ok. Ask me in a few months and also i read that in warmer climates they disintegrate after 50,000km.....something to think about...but get this...my factory Grandtreks lasted 27,000km. My usage is this, 70% highway, 25% offroad, 5% domestic...as i live very close to where i work...some days it's quicker to walk.

I was easily able to go up some of the tracks in the AT2s that the factory Grandtreks stopped me from going up. Yes, i can't compare them to anything else as hey it's my first LC100 and my Mitsubishi from back in 1993 i only had for 3 months.

But i just thought i'd let you know about the Grandtrek AT2....and i'm heading up there again today and it's been raining so it should be good...and i will have a camera too....pics hopefully in a day or two
beers

Nice rubber Red!

I cant wait to see some pics of them on your rig..Sounds like a rugged and well designed tire, nice looking tread too. They look like they run a bit tall/narrow.. how wide are they?

Give us a full report after you test `em out

They look pretty aggressive we'll have to see.

They are 33.1 tall 12.2 section width and 9.4 tread width.

Wow these have a MUCH more agressive look in person! Just got them put on and none of this really matters without pic's huh? ;)

Don't mind the road noise at all but I don't think we get ton's of road noise with the 100's with how quiet they are inside.

They barely stuff up inside with my stock height vehicle. I haven't tried cranking the wheels while stuffing them up inside but I'll try some gentle wheeling pretty soon to see if I get any rubbing at all.

PIC'S! I'm liking them for now but only time will tell if they wear good or perform well. Really cool design features though.

Definitely cool looking tires. Can't wait to hear how they perform off pavement and wear.

Looks very good! It will be good to hear your impressions of them.

THey look awesome. Great pictures. Keep us updated on noise and wear.

I'm bringing this thread back to get some feedback on the set of RT303 tires that were installed some time ago.

Thanks.

Looks great. Are they 295s?
