contact cruiserdan. his contact info is in a "sticky" thread in the vendors section. CDan is the parts mgr for American Toyota. He can hook you up with the FSM and any parts you'd need.
FYI: I got mine off of E-Bay. It's hit and miss... but it's worth a look.
Dude........Call Cdan he will hook you up. You will have to call him anyway once you figure out what you need to fix the problem.
Wherever you decide to buy your FSM (either from C-Dan or C-Dan) make sure you get one.
IMO they are an indispensable source of information. Additionally, it allows us to all be "on the same page" literally...when discussing procedures for repair.
Its a very good investment.

Alot of times the ebay versions are fakes, as flint mentioned you have two choices:

I bought mine from the local toy dealer about 5 years ago.....Before I was familiar with Cdan I agree with the previous posts....choose anyone you want as long as its Cdan.

The drive train is the same but there are enough differences especially electrical to warrant getting the right manuals. Wasting a day chasing the wrong wire would be frustrating, and how do you know when to trust your manual?
Unfortunately Dan cannot get the LX manuals, you can get paper versions through the Toyota Material Distribution Center 1-800-622-2033 they are more expensive than the LC manuals through Dan.
You can also get electronic copies of the LX manuals from the TIS for $10, PaLCruiser you buy a one day membership and then download what you want and keep it. Takes quite a bit of time to get all the manuals and info available, you can get the repair manual alone in less time. See the thread in the FAQ for multiple instructions.
I have paper copies of the major manuals and of all of them in PDF’s I really like having both.
First thing You should buy for you cruiser is at least have the FSM (Repair Manual) EWD (Electrical Wiring Diagram) and Owners Manual in either paper or electronic.
Other ones availabe for the 96 LX are Collision Repair Manual, New Car Features (very good for the 96 LX, less so in other years/models) Transmission manual, and service bulletins,
Non year specific info available on the TIS that is also good to have OBDII Monitor Description and Specification Supplements, Training manual and Wire Harness Repair manual.

My local Toy. parts guys and I have become quite good friends (I actually bought them all FJ40 hats that Razor was selling to thank them).
They gave me a card that gave me one year's free access to the TIS site--they said I'd need it if I was going to continue wrenching on the rig myself.
They've checked out MUD in lurk mode--they think that their service guys should get on here when they are scheduled to work on LC's. These guys also think we're a little overboard....
