I would like to know if it would be possible to swap the seat from the 80 series LC into a 100 series LC. I have noticed the 80 series seat to have much better cushioning providing better back support.
here's the pic for comparison.

go to an upholstery shop and have them add extra padding to your 100 seta if you're not happy with it, very simple fix and easier and cheaper than swapping an 80 seat

man I think the 100 seats are way more comfy then the 80 seats. But mom thinks the 80 seats are better then the 100 seats must be that 100+lb difference between us(me being the heavier one)

100 seats rule.

But only one side gets lumbar support until 2004 or something? That's a really cheap design move for a $60k vehicle.

This isn't disguised as another 80 v. 100 thread, is it? What is this, like Rocky XXI?

adding padding will not help the shape of the back seat itself. If you notice on the 80 series, the curve that comes outwards is way more than the barely noticeable curve that is present on the back portion of the seat in the 100 series.
and to avoid confusion, no this is not a comparison of the 80 vs 100 series, only a discussion on how to have the seating comfort that was present in the 80 series :)

What I am trying to figure out is, whether the base of the seats where the rails attach to the body are the same dimensions, and whether the swap would be a simple plug and play versus having to drill holes etc.

Interesting tech question if we can avoid having it spiral into a 80 vs 100 slugfest.

I propose that we agree that seating preferences vary according to individuals. If the 80 seat will go into a 100 then a 100 seat might go into an 80 providing providing a potential "upgrade" for everyone.

Are LX470 seats different than LC100 seats? and are they swappable?
How about other Toyota products?

the lx470 seats and the 100 series seats are identical.
the only questoin remains, can they be swapped with the 80 series, better yet, is it possible to leave the base and swap only the back support ?

Shotts has both an 80 and a 100 so ask him for some measurements for comparison. Personally, I think the 100 seats rock and you are all crazy, but seat comfort is very subjective.

i'll chime in as we have both...

the 100 seats from the LC and the LX may be the same structurally, however, i'm going to bet that there are some sort of position sensors that work in conjunction with the memory function on the LX.

secondly, i agree with some that the 80 seats are more comfortable, with the exception of not having a flip-down armrest to spam the chasm between the seat and the offset center armrest.

i find the 80 seats to be more comfortable becasue they are a bit more snug around my mid-size frame. i find myself sliding around more on the 100 seats. i guess that i find myself sitting IN the 80 seats and ON the 100's. if i were a wider body, i might think differently.

all this being said.. i wouldn't swap the seats. it wouldn't look right because i think that the 80 seats are smaller, both in width and height.

just my $0.02

ace10, I completely agree with your statement where you mentioned ....
..."i find the 80 seats to be more comfortable becasue they are a bit more snug around my mid-size frame. i find myself sliding around more on the 100 seats. i guess that i find myself sitting IN the 80 seats and ON the 100's. "...
that is why I would somehow like to havethe "snug fit feeling in the LX, and get more sitting IN feel.

Hee hee. That's why my luv handles  get sore after I 4-wheel in the 80. It's more snug around there. :D

well... for all the 'custom tailored' LC/LX owners out there, any ideas on how to custom make this scenario ? :)

Well, no one has asked what year you have. My 98 and my last 99 did NOT have memory seats so all that would be necessary is for the 80 seat to have a similar heating design if so equiped and a similar circuit/power source for the motor controls. I find it very hard to believe that the seats would be that different otherwise which means the answer to your question is yes you can. ANY good welder can fab some brackets for you if that is required. Prime and paint and there you go.

it's an 01, but I was under the impression that the seats were the same interms of size and configurations.
I am certain that with some changes to the brackets the swap can be made however I wanted to know if the brackets would be a perfect match and it was more like a plug and play scenario :)

470:

Right. I follow you BUT you also have to look at the electrical side of things. That was my point. Not sure about the spacing. The L to R measurement would be quite easy to get. Why don't you measure both and if they match then you can move on to getting the other measurement-same side front to back. If they do not match, then you have your answer. The L to R can be measured with your seat in the truck.

agreed, but for that I need to own the series 80 as well which I dont at the moment ! :)
that's why i posted it here so that someone who owns both would be able to get that measured and post their findings. :D
