Cruiserhead
Well, two weeks ago, on my way to our annual Yankee Toys spring meeting, my dad and I stopped at a local New Hampshire gas station to let my dog stretch his leg. Long story short, there was a 40 sittin in front and a few more in the makeshift junkyard (75% cruisers) in the back. As any normal cruiserhead would, I asked him if I could take a look out back. And to my suprise, tucked behind a tire pile was a rusty, old, but complete LV. I made a deal with him and told him I'd be back to pick her up the next weekend.
I went up last Saturday to pick her up, bringing along two tires (the fronts were missing) and a couple come-a-longs. Right away we found out the brakes were rusted and the wheels didn't turn, not unexpected just mre of a PITA to load. A little rugged backhoe work and two hours of come-a-longing later, (and some more junk yard scoping) we were back on the road.
Now that she's home, we're diggin in and findin out what's in store. By the way, LV's are a new ballgame to me, but growin on me fast. The floors are shot, the rockers are shot, it's missing the rear hatch, and the pass side rear quarter is pretty hurt too. But the drivetrain is complete, all but the rear crossmember of the frame is solid, the doors are pretty good, the fenders are salvageable, and all the glass but the windshield is good. Sound like a keeper, huh?
I don't have a "plan" for her yet, but these are such funky rigs I can't let her go. I'm pretty sure she's a 64, she's got a GM carb with what appears to be the stock carb on the seat, a crude plow setup, no rad, some funky pass floor heater, no keys, but pretty complete.
I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions as this is my first LV and although I'm familiar with 40's and 60's, these babies are all new to me. For now, I'm workin on freein up the drums so I can get her in the garage to dig in some more.
