Hey all:

Since this is a new to me Cruiser, I noticed underneath that the cat. back muffler and tail pipe were really in bad condition.

So, I went to my local Yota folks who gave me the same quote (read: discount) that Dan did...(sorry Dan!! They were just as kind!...still going to go with you for the other stuff though).

They also quoted me $100 to install and the guarantee the work, parts, and materials for the lifetime of the car--if anything happens to my exhaust system (cat. back at least), they will replace at any Yota dealership--nationwide--for free, no questions asked.

I thought this was a good deal and went with it. I know the muffler and pipe would be  work, but I am crazy busy and would rather just have them do it and guarantee it too. They said they'd give the job to the 'old guy' who happens to drive a 60 (saw it in the parking lot). He's about 60 years old and has been at this dealership for 23 years. He said he'd even twist the cats. 90 degrees to get me better clearance...

Not a bad find. I think this is the same deal at all Yota outlets (Dan--you might be able to confirm this). So, if your exhaust is hurting--get the parts from a local if you get a deal (or from Dan) and have them do the work. I think this might be the only thing I'll have the Yota people do....

Just an FYI to you all.

Best regards.

So you are saying buy the exhaust parts at local toyota, get them to install for $100 and lifetime guarantee ??? if thats the case, isn't the original exhaust on the LC fall under this lifetime warranty as well ???? what was the costs of the parts ?? have an exhaust leak myself near the cat and will be looking into it this weekend...

Yep--I had contacted CDan and got a quote from him, and went into my local Yota and the Click and Clack guys who run parts matched Dan's price (or got close enough to warrant it).

Then I went to the service dept. and they said 1.5 hours=$109 + tax.

This is in Akron, OH, FYI. The prices might be different, service different, etc.

Nope. The original is only guaranteed to 30K under some warranties or 80K under others. After that, we are SOL on the original muffler according to my Yota folks.

what was the costs of the parts ?

Part # 17403-66041: Pipe Sub-ASSY, ex: List: $345.86 Net: $287.27
Part # 17405-66010: Pipe Sub-ASSY, ex: List: $219.60 Net: $189.64
Part # 90080-43033: Gasket, Exhaust P: List: $3.52 Net: $2.47
Part # 90080-43033: Gasket, Exhaust, P List: $3.52 Net: $2.47

I'd give CDan a PM and see what he can get you for the parts, and then maybe check with your local Yota folks. See if they can match CDan...doubt it for many of us. I think I lucked out.

yep, if you buy and have the dealer install a OEM exhaust then it a lifetime warantee. If you buy the exhaust and install yourself its only the standard 1 year warnatee(as on all OEM parts)

Think I have been quaoted $130 for the exhaust including install at my dealer for a 60 or 40

thanks guys, i'm sure its the pipes that are rusted out on either side of the cats, but will look for sure tomorrow after work...shipping probably will be alot from NM to VA....

The Pimp has summed it up. I will elaborate a bit:

Original exhaust components are NOT lifetime. This warranty applies only to components replaced in a customer-pay repair. The parts AND the labor MUST be billed on the SAME document (IE you can't buy the part at dealer A and take it to dealer B for installation) and the warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable to subsequent owners.
