I just picked up a trailer a few weeks ago on the drive down to pick it up I had a fully loaded truck with a little bit of stuff on the roof. There was noticeable drag at highway speeds along with the cross wind effects and added noise.

Once picking up the trailer, we repacked most of the gear from the truck and everything from the roof to the trailer and the cross wind effects and noise where gone. The drag was only noticeable going up big climbs. The one thing that surprised me was that I got better gas mileage towing the trailer then I did with stuff on the roof even after adding about 1200 pounds of gear including the trailer.

For me the biggest reason for getting the trailer over adding more storage was.
1 - Low overhead clearance on most of the trails we run
2 - Maintaining the center of gravity
3 - Easier access
4 - Ability easily leave gear at base camp

Some of the down fails of a trailer are
1 - Backing up
2 - Added difficulty/maneuverability on obstacles
3 - Added length, Parking, Tight spots

Overall I thing the trailer with be on most of my multi day trips.
 
I age=ree completely with BC_FJC. Trailer MUCH better.

Backing up is easy. Steer from the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand the direction you want the trailer to go.

Trailer = Good.
 
Another vote for trailer.

I get MUCH worse mileage with the 150lb RTT on than when I've hauled 1000+lb gravel loads with the trailer.

Trailer can be workbench, table, bed, corral and basecamp.

Trailer. Have done 7-runs with the trailer since getting it in September last year. It's great. No regrets.
