agree with starter, happened to me just as you described on the way to mammoth
was stuck in the value-sport parking lot-feel your pain
hope you get it worked out
Great option to have.
Aussie rear and e-locker in front. I would be interested.
How long has it been in production? Long term reliability?
Again price is a concern, but...
Keep forging ahead!
As I read the blog, I wonder if I have the mental aptitude to survive just the heat, let alone all the other obstacles along the way.
This is a great reminder of higher things to achieve.
quick questions
when we say dd-how many miles are you putting on your truck per year?
extra maintenance for the diff.?
expected longevity of the locker?-read 50k somewhere.
what is the actual part number?
thanks

I trust my cruiser and finished a 2000 plus miles trip from los angeles, CA to sunriver, OR roundtrip. We had a few check engine lights in the past and the headgasket was replaced, but so far it has always got us home. We take several trips to mammoth, 300 plus miles trip, every year. It is...
Brian, Thanks for the info!
This will make things much more smooth. I have done most of the preventive stuff already since the hg replacement and before. But I think I should do the a/c pulley and replace my aftermarket alternator belts with oe belts since I am there.
Thanks
TL
Well, my radiator was replaced just 3 years ago when I bought the cruiser and I thought that would be the last of my worries. I have put about 50k on her since then. But I sprung a leak along the top edge of the radiator-cracks 2-3 small, 1/4 inch cracks. I have thought of using jb weld but...
wow...o.k.
total cost about $1650
broken down:
labor for about 18 hrs $800
parts from cdan hg/grind valve kit, alt brushes, water pump and other misc. o rings $360
machine shop-resurfaced head, valve seals and valve job $480
the mechanic is in chino but will soon be moving to rialto...
i'll take it for $2001!
you can easily add the center diff lock-plug and play
allows for true 4wd in high gear
cdl locks when shifts into low
yes your cruiser is a great wheeler even without front and rear diff locks
you can add them later...search arb air lockers
quick question: has anyone pulled out a repair plug or had leakage while wheeling with a repaired tire?
no worries or use as spare?
real world scenarios...
thanks
looks good, but I won't and didn't do it.
why second guess something that takes about 20hrs of labor...
call cdan!
I don't have references for CO, but the labor rate for my hg replacement was around what you are willing to spend for the repair, but alas I am in CA.
My headgasket blew at 173,000 miles luckily just after a 300 mile trip from mammoth.
The cruiser did not overheat, upon returning from the trip it started to idle roughly and later in the night the tail pipe was smoking white.
couple more pics
One pic I don't have is the head back from the machine shop-oh so shiny. I had to use Brian's camera, once he emails it I will post it too.
Oh yeah let me just say the price of the repair was more than reasonable. Much less than some of the prices recently quoted...
