Hey folks,
I've done a little searching on this and haven't found what I was looking for. I've got a 93 FZJ and have a technical question about how the fuel injection system works. I know the FZ-FE has a throttle body (because I had to take it off during the HG replacement!), but it also...
If you do go look at that 93 make sure the walk away price is about $1000 less than advertised. My 93 is at least as clean, had 145K when I bought it, and came with factory lockers. I paid $7200 last year.
I'm back. I think one of the reasons swaps are appealing to many of us is the ability to run biofuels. As I stated above, I made my own biodiesel (a very simple home version of transesterification) for $.90/gallon--the only costs are for your methanol and catalyst, the veggie oil is free...
I don't know where you guys are getting this extra operating costs thing. I did a swap in my 60 and that thing was totally maintenance free. WAYYYYYY simpler than the 2F, got up to 26 mpg, and ran like a top. Plus, I made my own biodiesel for $.90/gallon, so the payoff was a no-brainer for...
Hey folks:
93 FZJ80 with recent HG replacement. I've had an inconsistent low idle issue that comes and goes at start-up, but I also recently noticed a brief strong smell of fuel at start-up. I can't isolate whether it is coming from the rear or the engine bay, but I DO get a little whiff in...
LT--
Just curious whether you think removing the head with the intake on is important. I'm sure it is easier to remove the intake out of the vehicle, but does this save time?
I'm sure folks wiser than I will chime in here, but I just went through an HG replacement so I'll tell you what I know.
The quickest check is to pull your plugs and look for antifreeze on the plugs. Usually other definitive signs would have popped up at this point.
Another check you...
TIMC:
Sorry to hear about your HG. I just did this project myself so it is all fresh in my mind.
I'm assuming you don't have IdahoDoug's HG DVD. If you are anywhere in Oregon I'd be happy to let you use mine. It's pretty helpful for this project.
The upper intake manifold bolts...
Mine just got a brand spanking new head gasket. If it treats me right (and never leaves me stranded again) I've promised it my loyalty.
It was pretty close to being sold though.
Sweet Riley.
Glad everyone is okay. We are definitely in snow season. I took the cruiser up to Swampy sno-park to exercise the diffs--HOLY SNOW in the parking lot:eek:
Thanks Landtank.
The idle issue is while in park at idle, and it occasionally gets low enough that I get a little vibration. One little tidbit--I had to replace my VAFM with one from a 94. Could this be the issue?
Hey Folks:
I've been driving my rig now for a week after doing the HG replacement. Even though everything seems fine (I check my overflow reservoir every day for little bubbles) I'm still in paranoid mode.
I have two questions now after this project:
1. My idle seems a bit lower than...
VAM/VAFM=Volume Air Flow Meter or something like that. Replaced by the MAF on 95 and up model years.
Break it and your car is parked until you fix it. I got lucky and found a used one locally.
Finally some good news!
I fired it up this morning to let it run for a while and monitor smoke levels, bubbles in coolant reserve, temps, etc. After about 5 minutes the smoke dissipated, temps were steady, no bubbles, so I took her for a spin. The quick spin turned into a nice long drive at...
I drained the fluids as prescribed in the FSM (pull radiator plug and block plug).
I also drained the oil, but I'm sure you are right--there is still fluid in there. I am following Doug's advice to run cheap oil in right after and then replace with good oil in a week or so.
I really hope...
Thanks again folks.
Wasn't the dizzy. I took the cap off today to check alignment of the rotor and repositioned it so that it pointed to approximately 11 o'clock (while in TDC). Still didn't work. Swapped in a new VAM and it fired right up.
I let it idle for a while until it found a...
