I am in Fort Smith too. I used to see this 40 parked in a drive way in town, and I noticed it has not been there for a while. Glad to know it is being redone. I would love to see this once it is complete and ask you some questions. I have a red 71 FJ40 that I would like to restore in the near...
Hello,
I recently torqued the top portion of my door, and my window does not want to travel up or down. The window crank sounds and feels like it is stripped. I plan on taking it apart Wednesday, and I was wanting to ask if this is repairable or not? I plan on trying to spread the felt guides...
I have a 71 F motor with the single groove pulley. I am wanting to add a mini truck power steering set up. My question is: has anyone pulled a pulley off of another F single groove balancer and mounted it to the existing balancer? I have a spare laying around, and it appears that it can come...
The bottom of the door is snug to the body/tub. I do not think I can get that much adjustment out of that. I will certainly look into it though. Also, I will not be using the hard top in a long, long time. So, I would like to have them fitting pretty snug up top.

I finally got around to installing my new Best Top/Super Top yesterday that i purchased about 2-3 months ago. I am using the hard doors with the soft top. Everything is a real tight fit except for around my driver side door. There is a 0.50 to 0.75 inch gap on the back side of the door down to...
Are you running a fuel pressure regulator? I run a Weber, and I am experiencing the same problem. It is nothing bad, but I do not like the big puff of smoke after waiting for the light to turn. The Weber site "strongly" reccomends that the fuel pressure be regulated to 2-3 psi. I may try this...
I pulled one from a junk yard off of a Toyota Mini. I had to make a couple of minor adjustments to the firewall, but it was nothing a BFH would not take care of. I have not had any problems with it since knock on wood. It was only around $20 too.

I did mine, and there are no leaks. Mine had some spiderweb looking spots on it. I thought black would look good on a red cruiser. It does look nice, but the summer sun makes it feel like an oven. It is nice in the winter though. The top will be coming off this summer!

Just a thought. Does your ignition system use points? I always had problems with my points sticking and the result was often backfiring. I have since changed to a electronic ignition (dizzy) after reading posts on this site. I know you were working on the carb, but your distributor may be acting...
Hello,
I have a 71 FJ40 that is pretty much stock. I am wanting to put a suspension lift on it this year and a few other things.
My question is: will a 17" wheel work on an FJ40? I was thinking about getting some factory wheels from a Sequoia, 4Runner, Tundra,..... I know a 16" will work...
my brother in law did this to his &eep transmission. he used JB on it, and it did not hold. we welded it with a welder for aluminum. it has worked fine ever since. it will need grooved out and filled in. it is pretty easy to do not use JB on it, and then decide to weld on it. that stuff will not...
thanks for the advise. i will give it a shot around mid-week. this site is very useful, and it is impressive on how fast you can get responses by people that know what they are talking about. i hope the front disc brake swap goes well. thanks again

over the last week, i knew i had a leaky wheel cylinder. well, pulling into the garage on sunday was the point where i needed to do something about it. luckily there was enough junk in there to prevent any damage! the pedal went to the floor twice before i knew what was going on.
anyway, my...
where did you get your freeze plugs? i had my F rebuilt about 8 months ago and i had the same problem. the guy who rebuilt the motor got the plugs from a kit. needless to say, they leaked and popped out. i ended up ordering 3 new ones from toyota. they are more of a concave disc than a cup. they...
