I agree with Mark’s advice. I had almost the same experience a few days ago! Had to be towed, 2F would not stay on and it happened out of no where after acting slightly odd for a few blocks. Narrowed it down to a fuel issue and it was not the fuel pump or filter. Cleaned the needle, seat, and...
Does anyone know of preferred resources for EPDM rubber to go between body parts/hinges/exterior bolts, metal to metal surfaces that are bolted to the FJ40? No luck with searches so far, but are there are precut kits available?
A slight hesitation is still there, but there was considerable improvement from playing with additional weight placement on the weighted secondary. A Carb rebuild and correcting the valve clearances during troubleshooting may have made improvements as well. I initially thought fuel delivery...
Thank you both for helping me see that. I see now that I was looking at the housing collar, and that the input shaft is not visible. However, I took another hard look at the clutch disc and inserted a small piece of an orange zip tie between the mating surfaces of disc (fitted very very loosely)...
Thanks, I went ahead and checked and measured that the clutch disc has at least a 2mm gap (between the flywheel/pressure plate) to float and I can rotate it very freely in neural when the clutch is depressed. Was also able to test again and verify that that the disc is at a dead stop in idle...
I was able to verify it. I have the dust cover off and I can see the clutch disc sitting in the same position between the flywheel and pressure plate and not turning when engine is in idle, when the clutch pedal is pushed in all the way (video added above).
I have not however observed this yet...
What could be the possible reasons it is hard to shift an H41 into first gear and also hard to shift (with grinding) into reverse gear from a full stop in idle (considering the following)?
When the clutch pedal is depressed during idle, the clutch plate is disengaged and visibly...
Mark also rebuilt my H41 and Orion, showed me all the all issues once dismantled, and addressed several problems from the previous rebuilder. His expertise, attention to detail, and the final results were excellent! I highly recommend speaking Mark! 818-953-9230
Looks great on your rig Mark! Yes, those are the old 33x9.5x15 BFG A/Ts on 15x6 FJ60 wheels. I lightly sanded/primed, and then rattle-canned a couple coats with Duplicolor Black Wheel paint followed by 2 light coats of the Duplicolor Wheel Clear Coat, 10+ years ago. This particular wheel paint...
GISHAM,
Any chance you could share whether you were able to resolve this issue and what solution worked? I have been experiencing the same exact problem. Thank you.
Here is data from a recent thread: compress/extend numbers for some of the Bilstein shock options pointed out by Purpleaction and to echo the point brought up by 65swb45 regarding doing your own travel measurements after finalizing suspension setup and before shock selection.
Bilstein B8 5125...
Surprising to find out how most of the options considered don't work for the compressed/extended length combo I need. It would just be a shot in the dark to make a decision based on the typical data that comes with shock advertising "inches of lift over stock" :bang:
Looking for the correct shocks for an SUA FJ40 (intended for up to 50mm lift over stock) but realized it’s not that easy to find the compressed and extended length numbers. I figure it’s ideal to determine the compressed and extended limits (eye to eye) of your vehicle's suspension as a primary...
If you're particular about keeping the Toyota wheels/look, another option is to have the centers cut from the OEM steel wheels and welded into taller and/or wider wheel barrels. This is a good option if you also want to achieve a specific offset and avoid using spacers. I had my centers cut from...
I'm a little confused with my axle set up on '78 FJ40. Considering the welded plates both on top and bottom, is this axle set up to run both SUA and SOA?
This question arose as I was trying to install the MAF U-Bolt flip kit and ran into problems due to the top plate.
