What to do with my Running 2F Out of my 1985 FJ60

Agree, a complete setup— engine/transmission/transfer case is a nice swap option for someone with an earlier F engine/trans/transfer case. I paid $1200.00 for the complete setup from a FJ60 with 85,000 miles. Now lives in my 67 FJ40.

    Alternator altering

Okay, purchased a meter and I am at 14.2 volts at idle and 13.8 with headlights on - so I think I am good. A few things about this alternator upgrade, which I learned when installing and reading threads in my 67'FJ40 ... (1) the 3FE alternator has two pulleys which interferes with fan. You...

    Alternator altering

Just completed the 3FE upgrade for my 1985 F2 engine and it looks like I am getting 13.5 volts at idle. In dash volt meter show needle pegged almost in the middle of the gauge - maybe a hair to the negative side. When all lights are turned on, it dips to more on the negetive side. But meter...

    Alternator altering

Texasblue do you have name and number of shop who will rework the alternator? Called two places local to me and they weren’t interested in rewiring older alternators. They said, better to mod something in.

    Desmog/Manifold update

Some don’t like the Remflex gasket, but worked well for me...no more exhaust leaks.

    Ping vs. Power

Interesting post, will be doing the paper clip test. Maybe we should run an informal survey, how many tested and what were their results.

    New Carb

Used a trollhole carb and it's working out great. I run desmog and carb idles great, easy to setup, starts great compared to old stock carb. Looked at racers carb and emailed him back and forth - great response to my questions. Both are good choices.

Trollhole Carb users: Please chime in

Installed one about a week ago and had to make a few adjustments with the linkage and bracket for the cable throttle setup. But after that, runs great and is a big improvement on the stock carb which is in need of a rebuild. I am running de-smogged. Only adjustments needed was to get the idle...

Who has the best world market OEM FJ60 carb that answers their phone?

As mentioned above, let your customers know expected delivery times and everyone will be better off. We then can determine if we want to move ahead with a purchase, how to plan truck down time. Taking someone's order and then not responding is never okay no matter who does it!

    idle solonoid

Can't seem to wrap my head around this. i have a 2F engine out of a 1985 FJ60 in my '67 fj40. The green plug is not connected to anything (idle solenoid) and i was wondering if it should be. If it is not, any issues I may face?

looking for a TLC mechanic in or around NYC

Thanks for the urban classics info. Not too far away from me and it's great to see a shop who works on the older cars. Will check them out next time I need some work done.

    Carburetors

One of the trollhole carbs is set up with a cable as opposed to mechanical linkage. So, I am guessing I could do similar to a stock carb. Still contemplating my next move on my carb issue. Stock rebuilt sounds best at the moment, pondering the cable hookup.

    Carburetors

Read most everything I could find on carburetors for an 2F and was wondering what is "best" for a desmogged engine. A trollhole carb, original carb, or an original rebuilt carb for desmogged 2F? I am currently desmogged with original carb that needs a rebuilding. Engine is out of an 1985 FJ60...

fellow 60 owner in need of intake manifold - sending an SOS.

I would also add, if you had a good fit, no exhaust leak prior to the crack, a new used manifold may not fit up and require machine work to get it to sit correctly. I would suggest weld.

Vac leak at base of carb...what gasket do I need?

Great thread. Same issue and getting ready to pull the insulator and inspect. Looks like some orange rtv was used at some point.

    Careless Desmog

Is getting the carb rebuilt and dist recurred a must or can one be happy without that step? Or this something I will say I should have done years ago if in fact I wait years to do.

85'F2 Exhaust Gasket Replacement -- Few Questions

So, I put the exhaust manifold on my table saw deck and the exhaust manifold lays perfectly flat and is level - so this seems to check out okay. I then put my level (using as a flat edge) along side the head and it laid flat no high or low spots. But when I put the two together they don't mate...
