Hey gang, I totally missed the boat on SAS this year. Life got busy, customer builds, Corona stuff, etc and it just fell off the radar. I'm hoping maybe I can stop by on Tuesday or Wednesday to at least say hi to some old friends. I may even be able to work it out that it's an on-the-way...
News from the front...
Spent the last 36 hours out there with some old college buddies. Trails are mostly good and passable. Imogene and Black Bear still closed, don't hold your breath for Black Bear, Imogene may happen before SAS. Certainly more mud than last year, wet conditions are...
Announcement just came out today that Engineer Pass is open through to Animas Forks. They're still working on Cinnamon but projecting next week for that one. The route to Silverton is a little circuitous but can be made. Conditions are getting better each week...
Hey guys, I'll be coming back from the overland rally in Gunnison that Sunday. Post up an approximate time for Soulcraft and I'll probably meet you there. I may spend a day at the shop on Monday to catch up a bit before heading to Ouray on Tuesday AM.
btw - if anyone wants to detour to...
That would be sweet! Maybe by then I'll actually be ready for it. We've got a spare room and are in the middle of the mountains, whether you want to ski, hike, whatever, it's all here and you're welcome to stay with us.
Bummer, I was hoping to see Chunk in person. But I totally understand, these full restoration jobs just take gobs of time. Look forward to seeing you again!
For some reason Mud is not sending me notifications on this thread even though they are activated so I've missed a lot of the recent chatter. Here's an update from the area...
Just spent the weekend in the San Juans on the East side based out of Lake City. We explored Engineer and Cinammon...
That's been my thought. I'd be surprised if the passes open before July 4th this year. The snowfall is, in a word, epic. Going to be a short wheeling season in Colorado high country this year.
Magic 8-ball says "outlook not so good" on that one. Too many customer projects getting in the way already - doing an R2.8 in a FJ40 right now and about to kick off a Willys build (blasphemy, I know). I'm feeling stressed about getting the Goat to SEMA, much less SAS. But you never know...
And that's what I get for not checking page 1! Glad to hear it though, his rig is quite a nice build and I'm sure many will enjoy seeing it. I should have some fun new mods on my FJ60 by that time plus other interesting toys to bring... :)
@The Machinist , @rhah , @EasternYeti before their descent into the mine...
Wednesday Poughkeepsie crew heading towards Corkscrew
More 60-series, the Lake Como shot...
Many thanks to Casey and all the organizers, that was one of the best weeks wheeling I've ever had. I'm finally getting around to sorting through all my photos from the trip, thought everyone might enjoy a few of these...
My gratuitous hero shot on Imogene...
Washington crew coming up...
Do we have an itinerary or schedule for each day? Not that it really matters, but just curious how you guys plan to coordinate the trail runs, break up into subgroups, etc. Any sort of meeting on Tuesday night to go over that stuff? I've got to work a bit in the morning but should be at the...
