Which Oil Filter Would You Rather Use?(TRD/OEM)

For some it's not really about power, but better filtration. I remember reading an old article where someone ran a special aftermarket filter and the used oil ended up having less particulate than new oil. But there comes a point where better filtration doesn't realistically help anything...

Genuine Toyota filters are like $6 and available at the big box store. Or order from the dealer discount sites, get extras and keep them on the shelf for convenience. With that value I really don’t see why people would seek out alternatives, unless it’s for a performance gain.

Did it crush the support tube in the filter cap? Or collapsed the filter around that?

I’m not an amsoil guy (seriously), but.. https://www.tundrasolutions.com/threads/amsoil-eao-oil-filter-test-results-incredible.43266/ Some of these filters do something special. Note that amsoil has explicitly stated their crazy high oil change interval is not to be followed with these...

Yeah, it would have to crush the inner metal filter support to collapse the filter.. the TRD/Royal Purple/Mobil 1 versions just add their own support tube which makes the original redundant.

I spoke with my friend at a local parts counter, the filters don't show available because of backorder. He said those appear to be only 2-weeks.. but other TRD parts like front brake pads are 200+ sets backordered with no ETA. So they may have elected to pull some of the TRD parts from the...

Noticed that yesterday. TRD brake pads are also NLA. We can probably assume the TRD filter was produced for toyota by someone who’s business it is to make filters.. any idea who that is as an alternate source? I’ve been using TRD for four years but would have no problem running...

It is fine. The gasket on top of the TRD filter seals against the top of the filter housing, ensuring oil doesn’t bypass the filter element.

A TRD product isn't at all only meant to work with a TRD labeled vehicle. Most of them are just upgraded parts to put into standard toyotas. As such, it totally makes sense that a TRD filter would be designed to fit into a standard landcruiser.. and outside of the quality issue with these...
