Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

I actually like t belts over chains, interference engines suck regardless. Getting in there to replace the belt on the 2UZ forces you to inspect almost everything on the front of the engine and your forced to replace a good amount of coolant (not replacing coolant leads to lots of problems in...

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

^ This, maybe a starter too I think that was mentioned. The rack will save you 1k of labor down the road. Headers if they’re cracked already. Been driving a 2UZ 4R for 4 years with the exhaust tick, it’s finally getting worse but it’s probably some old gaskets at this point. She’s a rusty one...

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

Yeah used engine is going to be hard to say how many miles. Not that it really matters in 2UZs, frequency of fluid changes are what matters. It would be nice to see what the inside looks like and if it has built up any heavy varnish, or worse sludge.

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

Yeah there’s not too much you can force them to do by law, and that routes a s*** show anyway. A good business will try to keep customers happy and coming back. Might be worth seeing if they’re willing to source a different engine not from the site above. We’re all human and we all mess up...

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

It didn’t fail, it was installed incorrectly. Make sure they source an LC engine or at least JDM 2UZ. I’ll bet they try a tundra US engine first. Also 4R exhaust manifolds are different as well, not sure if the bolt patterns are the same.

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

@OregonLC JunkCrzer on page 2 posted the FSM stating it’s interference. Yes, no one has really posted a grenaded nonVVTI on mud or t4r that I remember seeing, but the FSM says it is.

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

@nissanh Good info, I noticed quite the price difference for a Toyota air fuel sensor vs Denso air fuel sensor. Not a few $ more like $70. Denso supplies Toyota afaik. OP: To be quite honest I wouldn’t trust much from what this shops says (same ones that installed I assume), telling you before...

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

This 2uz question has been beaten to death and I’ve been under the impression that pre VVTI is labeled “interference” but I’ve seen posts on Tunda/T4R/and mud like this from a really old thread. Do we have a broken belt that destroyed a pre VVTI engine?

Can a timing belt change make an engine fail?

Not exact same but I did have the oil pressure wire get cut by a belt after a Tbelt change, took 10k miles and 9 months till it rubbed enough to cut through though. That said I like @hickuptruck idea of cam sensor.
