    1996 450 getting very Hot

Could be the fan clutch, a relatively easy fix. Search the forums - there has been much written here about it.

    Key at Start...but no starting

Just finished dealing with the same issue a few weeks ago. Before pulling the starter or messing with the NSS and such, I strongly recommend checking the battery cables. After much unecessary labor, I pulled the battery cables to clean the terminals and found some loose connections. After...

    Leveling my engine conversion FJ80

TT, Well done! I've been toying with the idea of using the GM 4200 instead of doing the head gasket on my 1FZE and possibly using the I5 in a 40. I'm wondering how difficult you think it would be to keep these swaps emissions compliant (as I am in Commie-fornia)?

    Broken ring gear - questions!

Alia - Cruiser Karma has been good to me when it counts! and I will no longer procrastinate on the installation of a CDL switch (kind of a no-brainer, really!) Tools - thanks for the the trail tip! I think I've read that here before, but was too stoopid to commit it to memory. Thanks...

    Broken ring gear - questions!

Robmir - I feel I need to defend my honor here. Despite my ignorance, I DO know gears are steel. That's why I thought the characteristics of the crack were curious (to my unschooled eye, anyway!) Just interesting, that's all. And my friend's front end (that doesn't sound right...) is from an...

    Broken ring gear - questions!

Bear - Getting home was the easy part. I lost mobility about 40 yards from the end of the fire road approaching a state highway. That, and a buddy from a local 4x club drives a wrecker. :D Here's to being lucky!

    Broken ring gear - questions!

After a long haitus, I managed to dig my rig out of 4' of snow to complete the removal of the 3rd member and begin diagnostics. Autopsy revealed a single tooth decided to part ways with the ring gear and lodged itself just underneath the pinion. I'm not schooled metalurgy, but it kinda looks...

Real-time help: how do I disconnect diff lock?

I'm trying to remove the 3rd member from the front (I think I broke the ring gear), and my hands are too cold to pull any of the plugs from the diff lock. The diff carrier is off, sitting on jackstand, but I can't see well enough to remove the three connections remaining. Am I being dumb...

    Broken ring gear - questions!

Now I've done it...My 96 FZJ80 has been doing time as my wife's kid hauler/grocery-mobile since we bought it used coupla years ago. We planned to build an expedition/wheeling rig out of it in a year or so, but...couldn't wait 'til then to wheel it. After playing around on some of the trails...

    Newbie Intro + Question

Greetings! I've been lurking here for over a year - just kinda soaking it all in. I've even ordered some parts from Dan. But I've never felt compelled to man up and post... until now. My 80 served as a kid hauler for the wife until this weekend; the year's first snow storm here in the San...

    Prospective members

Greetings. My Jame is Jason Hower, age 33. My wife drives my 96 FZJ80 w/factory lockers, which has been christened "Moby Dick" by my 2 year-old. It was purchased this summer in response to last year's winter here in the San Berdu mountains (figures - no real snow yet THIS year). I've always...
