So it's been 15months and they are back to looking like crap again. This cleaning worked but there's so much pitting on the coating they get dirty very fast. I keep scheming about a bronze paint or matte black and treat them like steelies.
Updates:
Found front shocks were toast, went to OME 2865 (medium) in the rear and OEM shocks all around. (Maybe a little improvement, certainly ride quality better over OME 2863s)
Replaced front ball joints that were toast.
Biggest improvement of all was spending $300 on that freaking frame...
So I've got a fairly early 100 Series, vin in the 8,000s. I'm not sure how common this is but my rear differential indicator switch was a different part number. I first order 84222-12010. Getting under my truck it didn't have a plug directly on the back. It had a little cord to a plug. On one...
I replaced the gear shifter lightbulb today on my 1998 LC. The little decal on the inside is flaking off. Anyone make a little sticker for this or replaced this somehow? Lots of extra light is getting through now.
You can definitely try that. I've had mixed success with a good cleaning and 3M Trim tape. Previous window installs had left a bunch of crap in the track, old tape, old silicone, old black rtv. Eventually got new window trim and the proper rivets and even the new trim had trouble staying down...
So I ended up using Purple Cleaner followed by Maguires Aluminum wheel cleaner. Then a combination of magic eraser and scotch brite pad (on the inside). Made a big difference and was pretty cheap. The Les Schwab powder coat option was $85/ wheel plus huge headache of sending them off for a few...
I've got 319k miles on my 1998. Owned it since 2012. Seems like this thing has excessive vibrations going down the road. Just too much vibration in the seat at 60+. What's the best place to start with restoring that smooth quiet interior on the freeway in a 23 year old vehicle? Body Mounts...
My stock rims are pretty beat up. Not scrapped up so much as light corrosion, seem like permanent rust stains. Are there some better chemicals I can use to get rid of the rusty looking parts and make the wheels look mostly new?
Thanks for the confirmation. It will be a fairly small trailer so electric brakes don’t seem totally necessary, I kinda figured by the time I run a new hot wire to the back for trailer battery charging might as well run the electric brake line too.
Looking to install a 7-pin trailer plug and brake controller. Have a 1998 currently with 4-flat connector. I went through the whole brake controller thread linked in the FAQ but I get the impression that the 98/99s don't have a simple spot to plug in the brake controller and 7-pin plug so you...
I've had a vibration between 65-75mph for about 4 years now. This thread has motivated my to dig into things again. Need to kinda start over with systematic checking of things.
Since I'm currently on Oahu I had to take the Landcruiser into 4Wheel Parts for a locker install after a axle seal leak led to a seized pinion bearing.
They got an RD131 and a G2 master install kit. They can't make it work apparently even after a phone call to ARB. They can't get the backlash...
