Well I thought I had one issue licked, but...
The cannister that I was referring to is located INSIDE the vehicle between the front and back seats.
When I originally posted this, I was told it probably was the charcoal cannister (part of the emissions control). Since then I bought a Haynes...
Cool!!!!
Thanks for the info...
I guess it'll probably be a go for the purchase. Now I'll have to get geared up (manuals, tools, time) and then comes the fun.

I forgot to add one more question to my original post. There is a small cylindrical looking thngy (almost like a small black coffee can) in between the seats and it appears to have hoses running to it....what the heck is that thing????
Jeff
Well the field has narrowed a bit, and I think there may be a candidate vehicle close by my home. Here's the next question.
It is a stock 1977 model with minor rust around rear bottom (the ones I've seen seem to rust at this location...must be common), and the seller wants only $2500.00 for it...
OK OK OK
Now which one. I'm courious as to which year and setup would be a best bet for a first time buyer of an FJ40 (ya know, best features, performance, accessories, etc...). The 1964 looks like it won't work out without spending bookoo pennies.
Jeff
Yup, I'm new to this thing called the fj40 so here goes a few questions.
1. I am considering buying a 1964 model from a local who is moving out of state and he is asking about $800.00 for the vehicle...is this an ok price?? (not too rusty, runs)
2. While looking at it (very quickly) I didn't...
