Help! Stranded in Mozambique with a broken gearbox

Thanks for the replies so far. Both the 4 speed boxes have the short output and no adaptor- so they wont work. The gearbox from a 1hz is a possibility, someone here is talking about it. I have a few more questions; Is it any gearbox from a 1hz? Are they all h55s? Will my transfer case fit...

Help! Stranded in Mozambique with a broken gearbox

Hi guys, i have a pretty major problem on my hj60. The bottom half of my gearbox has been destroyed. The lower front bearing went, which then caused the lower cogs to strip. I think this is the counter shaft? I'm currently in Northern Mozambique, and the local town (nampula) has quite a...

    Overlandinthesun - London 2 CapeTown HJ60 rebuild

Yea, I wouldn't want to have a car with a stretch like that! The metal is the same grade as the original frame - in what I think is one of the weakest parts! Thanks for the info about the fuses - that does seem to make sense.

    Overlandinthesun - London 2 CapeTown HJ60 rebuild

    FJ 60/62 Truck Security Ideas?

For me it isn't just literally driving the car away, but also preventing people from getting into the car in the first place. I have basically been living out of the car for the last 7 months - so there is some valuable stuff inside.

    Copper alloy brake line

Pure copper pipes and copper alloy pipes are two different things. Copper alloy is also know as Kuniffer or cupra-knikol. (sorry can't remember how to spell either of these words!) It will not corrode. Its more of a Gold colour rather than the traditional copper colour. BMW use it to make...

    FJ 60/62 Truck Security Ideas?

Security is quite a big thing for me in Africa - and Old toyota skeleton keys are easy to come by (that open and start most old Toyota's. I decided disconnect the door locks and install a remote central locking. So the key holes are still there, but when you turn the key the barrel just spins...

    Overlandinthesun - London 2 CapeTown HJ60 rebuild

Hi Bennie, yes still in Nairobi just sorting out a small brake issue plus a few other things. Will be leaving for lake vicotira in the next couple of days, then into Uganda and Rwanda. Noticed you are on Facebook - that is the easiest place to find out where we are. Hope to see you in ZA for...

    Brake issue..

Thanks for the tips, I adjusted the rear brakes which made things a little better - but still not right so I have bought myself a new master cylinder. Was only $40! New part (though not genuine) but seams decent. I will then rebuild the old one as a spare. Good old Africa

    Brake issue..

Does anyone know if late master cylinders with the bigger reserve fit early smaller reserve models? Or do Hilux ones fit? Just want to check as I may not have all the options I want!

    Brake issue..

Yea i did bleed the valve, but will check the rear brakes again. It seams like it could be a problem with the master cylinder - hope I can find a rebuilt kit here!

    Brake issue..

That is the one! Not sure how it could give the problems I am experiencing without leaking - unless anyone knows any different!

    Brake issue..

I will check both - I think I might rebuild the master cylinder as a matter of course. I have the weight balance front rear thing- could a problem have developed with this? It doesn't leak and the brakes used to be OK

    Brake issue..

So my overland HJ60 is suffering from some brake issues... Most of the time the brakes are OK (junctions, roundabouts etc), but if you need to brake very quickly I feel like the pedal is going to the floor. It does have resistance and the brakes do work - but not as well as I would like. So...

    Overlandinthesun - London 2 CapeTown HJ60 rebuild

Hi Mandeep - thanks for the Kind comments - glad your going to use your 2H properly! My car does not have A/C so I cannot help you with the bracket for the compressor. I contemplated fitting it, but glad I didn't as I find that having your windows open in Africa helps to connect better with...

    Overlandinthesun - London 2 CapeTown HJ60 rebuild

No problem about the high jack (should be a Hi lift in my book!) My German friend tells me that some of the military michelin tyres you can re cut the tread once it has worn down - yes the rubber is that thick! On another note; Today we visited some of the SolarAid projects that we...
