I'm not that experienced with them, I was basing my judgements about the fork on forum posts and the ones I've seen for sale in Aus with a busted fork. It's all in now, just need to fix all the other things on the car before I can give it a proper test.
Hi All, almost finished my Fairey OD rebuild thread so I thought I would share my progress.
I bought a later model split case Fairey early last year for my HJ47 that ended up having a busted shift fork, which was unfortunate as I was hoping to just put it all in without any extra work. Good...
Hey guys, I am in the process of having a look at a fairey I got today to go in my HJ47. It is defiantly a post 1980 split case type (came from a 60 series). Could I possibly also get a copy of this manual from one of you guys.
Hello All, I am in the process of doing some repairs to my HJ47 Troopy, the roof and sides are off and the head as been reco etc. My old 4 speed had some semi nasty bearing noise for the last 2 years and the gear float is now out of tolerance. I am almost certain that the bearing noise was...
Hey SOOT, great work on the rust repairs. I'm in Canberra and this is motivating me to get my arse into gear with my own repairs. Great read. Let me know if you ever need some local help.
Some of you might of seen my first posts on this forum in 2007/2008 when I purchased and fixed some fairly nasty rust on an otherwise solid HJ47 troopy.

Well the rust around the pieces I repaired came back with a...
I slid off the road in my HJ47 troopie a few weeks ago (10 people in car + full trailer + driving down a mountain + rain = slippery) and bent in the panel behind the rear wheel and put a nice long scratch from the door to the end. I have pulled out the major damage with the tractor and...

Hello all.
I am currently trying to diagnose a noise my HJ47 troopy has had for a while.
With the clutch pedal out and revs under 1500 i get a crunchy rattle from the transmission. With the clutch in and/or revs above 1500 the noise goes away. If I roll along in 1st gear the noise still only...
i'm curious of the worth of my HJ47 if I sold it to some of you guys over in the excited states. In case I needed the cash.
It's an 1983 HJ47 2H 6cylinder Diesel.
-220,000 km on the clock and I'm certain this is original.

Long time b/w posts
Should be able to pick one up from a wreckers without too much trouble, but it's a hassle i would of preferred not to have dealt with. Leaving a steering lock on it all the time now.
I love mine for the ridiculous fun/trouble it gets me into on the weekends.
This was last weekend on a uni surf camp we run down here at Bells Beach. After we finished surfing we filled the troopy with naked drunk people.....strip rock-paper-scisscors.....very fun.
I got another 6 in this...
probably a slap on the wrist. He missed a $120 ticket and $300 calculator in the glove box. But if theives were intelligent they probably wouldn't be stealing things for a living.
Pics of my cruiser for any of you that are interested.
It's an 1983 HJ47 Troopcarrier. Making it Disc Brake Front, Tacho, SuperGlow Vintage
Bought it as a bit of a rust bucket (but looking at some you have in USA it was pretty good quality). Never done body work before so it was a slow...
In regards the galv burning off the weld itself. Get some solid galv sticks (some sort of zinc or zinc alloy...not sure) and while the weld is still hot melt the galv stick over the weld. Re-galvanises it pretty well.
Speed should be in km/h =
(engine rpm)/(4th ratio)/(H2 transfer ratio)/(diff ratio) x 2 x pi x radius(wheel(mm)) x 60/1000/1000
For example
2000/1/1/4.11 x 2 x 3.14 x (34x25.4/2) x 60/1000/1000 = 79.2km/h
I assumed the gearbox and transfer ratios where 1:1....they should be close to this...
2H, tacho redline is at 4000rpm from memory though i never go over 3.5 (never owned a 2F). Fastest I ever got the 2H 5 speed 60series was 130km/h (85mph i guess).
I run 32s with 4.88 diffs on both cars and I have no idea how you got to those speeds.
But as i said don't like revving the...
