    Distributor opinions on a ‘76

I ordered some replacement ignition parts for my ‘76 FJ40 (with the 2F engine) and I discovered the PO had installed a small cap dizzy when my new cap and rotor were too big for the old unit (doh!). I’d like to replace the smaller dizzy with something more robust. I’m currently running a Weber...

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

Great tip! I had the K&N kit here from another vehicle, I just gave it a fresh oil after reading this.

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

Thanks, I appreciate it! I do have a regulator and gauge on there - you can just see the top of it left of the oil filler cap. It's getting a steady 3 PSI.

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

Following up: I removed the Chinese Weber clone and replaced it with the real deal Weber carb. I also reran the fuel line to go from the electric pump to the regulator (it had previously been connected to a mechanical pump inline with the electric). I removed the mechanical pump and installed a...

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

JohnnyC - what setup are you running for fuel delivery? Stock pump? Electric pump with regulator? Return lines to tank? PO set mine up with an electric pump feeding into the mechanical pump into a pressure regulator with no return. Outside of the choke issue, it's running very rich and I...

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

Awesome advice all around - thanks all! I suspected it was a clone and the lacking of branding anywhere on the casting seems to confirm it. I don't believe that the automatic choke is working at all right now, I'll test voltage and confirm. Has anyone had great luck running one of these clones...

    Carb ID - Weber… I think?

First off, a sincere thank you to everone on this forum for the warm welcome and responses to my posts. I’m digging in and learning a ton, and I hope to contribute more along the way. I’ve had my ‘76 almost a month and I’ve gone over the ignition system, discovered a faulty coil, replaced plugs...

    The song of the distributor…

I’m getting to know my new FJ and was having some timing issues. After getting a remote start switch and a timing light, I noticed that what I thought was belt squeal may be the death squeak of the dizzy. Has anyone else encountered this? Do you opt for a stock replacement or are their favored...

    New FJ40 Owner - Hello!

Awesome info - thank you both! I had honestly never heard of JIS screwdrivers until now. Kind of blew my mind. It explains so much about stubborn Honda MC carbs!

    New FJ40 Owner - Hello!

Thanks! Mostly mountain roads, fire roads, light off roading - just a fun rig to drive around town. Weekend stuff.

    New FJ40 Owner - Hello!

Thanks! Currently, it seems the distributor retaining bolt isn’t holding it in place and the timing is a bit off since it moves around a bit. I was able to drive it home, but I’d like to get that dialed in before taking it out too far. It’s been a few years since I messed with an older style...

    New FJ40 Owner - Hello!

Hello! I'm a longtime Toyota fanboy who recently acquired a '76 FJ40. It's been on my wish list for about a decade and I recently won my rig at auction. I'm excited to dive in and start playing with it. I have many, many questions but I’m trying to dig in and read stickies, posts and service...
