Bummer I missed. I had full intention to make it until my 13yo woke up and said "hey lets go play 9 holes at Hancock" - but I did drive the 40 to/from the course :)

I love the idea of a vertical mount a la the 8274 but that was way outside my price range and I...
I have a winch and plan to create a mounting plate. This center piece existed when I got the truck. The bumper is 5" wide -- 1/4" C channel.
The current center piece needs to go. The welds on the bumper side aren't intact -- the plate separated from the bumper.
Am I fine mimicking this setup...
+1 for me ... last time the 40 made it to AJs it was on a trailer so I'd love to drive it up there. I could probably offload a few old tacoma parts for anyone interested if the swap meet idea holds.
Pumped how this turned out. I dare say the weight in the back smooths out the ride. The PO did add some strange flat piece that hangs below the bumper. I'll cut that off and have loads of clearance back there.
More bumper progress. it is now ready for paint. Attaching a few in-progress pics. Sorry Jim land but I am losing the bumperettes. One of them was pretty mangled as-is. I would have primed but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 180* here in TX.
Another 2 thumbs up for AJ -- he replaced the HG and a few other things on the 40, and it is now driving better than any other time since I've owned it. He now has my 05 Tacoma in for some surgery. I try to do as much as I can myself, but I know when I'm over my head and it's great to have...
got some garage time to start building a tire swing out ... I'll be cutting the length and building out the other side with a yeti / fuel rack. Current plan is to mount it similar to the 4plus with re-enforced plates mounting to the rear cross member.
Blower motor resistor. you can find YT videos om the replacement and TW has threads on the fix. I had to replace mine years ago (2005 Tacoma) and it has worked fine since. In my case it would only turn on full blast. The resistor connections had corroded. Common problem as others have posted.
thanks again everyone. I did order a few new manifold studs. I believe this to me my primary problem -- the rear stud in the hard to reach back of the engine. 2 of the bolts connecting the exhaust and intake were also messed up so I've chased those and the other studs (10 x 1.25 if I recall...
#1 in the pic is what I am after - it also sits on a removable part that slides into the exhaust. I'd get one of those but I don't see a part#. Maybe not factory?
yes - something isn't right with that. whack-a-mole :)
I did some re-assembly. All was going well until I tried to tighten that...
Update - wriggled it off. trying to clean everything as much as possible and reinstall. My exhaust donut gasket is shot so will order that and hopefully get everything else buttoned up.
1973 1F engine. The intake came off fine but the exhaust seems stuck. Is there anything more than the 6 bolts? I’ve already separated the down tube. I can sort of twist it upwards but it doesn’t want to come free and I’m not sure how much force I should use. Hoping a new remflex will seal it up...
it's been a minute so adding an update for my record keeping. I finally dug into the accelerator / power issues. The accelerator cable wasn't tight enough. I took out and cleaned the carb, cleaned the accelerator bracket, replaced the cable. Clean carb. Good cable. RAN GREAT. I don't think my...
