sorry -- power supply while idling. notice a significant drop in headlight brightness. also when running wipers/heater fan i can tell that the speed fluctuates.
right now the alternator i have in seems to not be internally regulated and only has 1 cable coming out of it and the writing reads...
Cooolerman -- question here, PO used the kwik wire harness but i think they ran the white wire directly to the alternator rather than thru the regulator (i can't locate a regulator anywhere). where in the harness does that connect? having trouble tracing the wire back.
Having some issues with...
still trying to figure that out, it disappears into the dash -- if i had to guess it goes to the ignition. its a qwik wire harness and the label on the wire says alternator exciter.. but from what I've read is that should plug into the regulator if the alternator doesn't have an internal...
part number 021000-6160, all of the interchanges appear to require external regulators
only one wire running from the plug connector and it appears to be a ground... replaced the battery when i first purchased about a year ago and run it a couple times a week.

Had the truck for over a year now and finally beginning to troubleshooting inconsistent headlights/wipers between idle and driving. seems that all signs point to the alternator/voltage regulator. Been chasing the wiring all thru the engine bay and i can't find a voltage regulator...
Beautiful! Also love the closeup of the latch, need to figure that one out for my rig.
Seems the PO has somehow glued one of the sides of the frames into the door — I fully removed one off the doors (all screws) to see if I could get it off but it still wouldn’t budge.
May end up just getting...
Trying to remove the top frames for the rear doors for the summer but I can’t get them out — are these not removable? One side looks like it can come out but the other is lodged in there. Am I missing something?
Any recs for a good rear door tailgate latch and best way to install? Looking to remove the top half of these doors when I take off the bows for the summer but I’m hesitant drilling into the body to put a latch. Right door won’t stay closed without the upper frame as is
So mine is just a straight exhaust pipe where it feeds behind the driver side rear tire - I would think 2 hangers would be sufficient. Anyone have an actual picture of the first hanger closest to the manifold? That’s the one I’m missing and I just want to know where it attaches and what it might...
How many points does the exhaust attach to the frame on an FJ40? Searched the forums and couldn’t find anything concrete.
Replacing the manifold gasket on my 77 40 because of a significant vacuum leak and when separating the manifold/exhaust I noticed that my exhaust had only one attachment to...
Cleaning up and replacing gaskets on my intake/exhaust manifold for a 77 fj40. I ordered the remflex manifold gaskets and it came with gaskets for the heat riser but they appear to be much thicker than the ones on there currently. I saw some old posts about those being too thick but they’re...
Thanks for that. Went thru over the weekend and fixed the 180 out debacle — now I’ve got the plugs ordered correctly and after fixing the points in the dizzy it seems to be firing up great now.
Read thru a bunch of threads about dizzy not being properly seated and I guess I’m having that issue...
It was done in the US but I think they may have thrown an older dizzy on there, from what I can see it’s a 68-74 model. Purchased from someone who had done the refurb
What makes you think it’s 180 out?
I’m not entirely sure as I don’t have much info on the restoration of the vehicle but I’d say it’s not original based on the overall condition. Pictures attached
For the most part my 77 FJ40 fires up just fine but on ocasión I’ve been having issues with my distributor. Will run fine one second then if I turn it off and go in to fire it back up it won’t fire….
I’ve found that if I remove the dizzy cap and pull the rotor slightly out before replacing the...
