The seats hold up great in my opinion. Virtually no wear after about 7k miles and 2 years of use. Just saw Toby and his wife at Rennsport in Monterey. They have a really sick VW Bus with custom seats.
Hi all-
During a particularly high AQI stint this summer, my wife bought a 17ft R-Pod trailer, 2950# dry, and declared we would be smoke refugees on the Oregon coast. It’s a cute rig, but the towing vehicle was not fully considered before the purchase. We have towed it a couple times with her...
I ordered a custom set of door cards in grey ABS from Australian Door Cards. These are the same as their website, except I opted out of the routed out shapes and ash tray cut outs. Problem is, I ordered for FJ-60 when I have a 62. Doh!
Luis was kind enough to send me a set for the doors that...
I have a complete interior from a 1988 FJ62 in grey that I would like gone this week. Includes the front seats, bench seat with headrests, door cards and carpet in as seen condition. I believe I can find the hardware to mount the bench seat as well as the rear seatbelts.
I really don’t want to...
I find my 62 more flexible for the family. While it’s my daily, when the kids visit they use it. None of them know how to drive a stick. They’ve piled 6 SUPs on top in the summer and a load to ski in the winter.
I’ve got this exact same issue in my ‘88.
It seems dependent upon where the nozzle is placed when filling. If placed perfectly, a stream of gas flows into the rear fender area, leaks and stinks. Happens about 10% of the time.
Problem is in Oregon they pump for you…
Front seats are XXLs. They are the grey cloth/leatherette seats that Toby keeps in stock.

Your picture did look darker. Perhaps it’s the light in my crappy pictures…
Following your build for inspiration on mine someday. You’re going to love the seats!
The grey Varios are a great match for the stock grey interior imho. Sorry for the poor pics, but this is my current grey interior with Scheel-Manns. Console was repainted with SEM Graphite which matches the seats well. Door cards are from @DrLui in grey.
I used a torch to soften the undercoating and then simply scraped it off while warm. Messy and time consuming, but satisfying to get down To metal fairly easily.
Looks great! Lizard Skin is good stuff. You get minimal benefit from coating both sides of a panel. If it were me, I would overcoat the LS with Rustoleum Satin Black and use black Rhino Liner on the inside.
