1980, BJ40, front discs, I have read the torque specs of 43 lb/ft, the reseat torque to 43, then the locknut at 65, and I've read the inner nut at 5, outer at 75...I have had issues in the past with front bearings going prematurely, I am trying to be careful and meticulous (sp?) this...
So it's Friday night, I'm replacing the leaky wheel cylinders on the rear drum brakes, 1980 BJ40...I pull the old shoes, old cylinders, and I get the new ones on, brake lines on, go to put the new shoes on and...on the end of each shoe is the tab that slides into the groove on the plunger of...
I have replaced the front calipers, rear drum cylinders were done last year...
I bled the fronts, and the rears, but still can't get the pedal to harden up...if I pump the pedal hard and fast it firms up, and holds pressure about two inches from the floor, but if I release and come down again...
so the manual has you seat the bearing by going to 43 ft/lbs, rotating the hub, then backing off and re-tightenming to 5 ft/lbs. Then you check for 12 lbs of pull on a wheel stud to check the resistance...I'm getting about 4 lbs resistance...I checked my scale, it's ok,

I had to replace a birf, as I slide the original axle with the replacement birf on it in, I can feel it engage on the splines in the diff, but it stops with about an inch to go? what gives?
ok, I took a hub from my 83 BJ60 parts truck, and plan on putting it on my 80 BJ40.
I bought two new rotors.
The 40 hubs use short wheel studs, and have 6 bolts holding the rotor to them.

Totally destroyed my driver's side front...lostthe axle from the birf out, the wheel hub(where the rotor bolts to), the aisin hub, the caliper, and the spindle (where the lock nuts go)...
I have access to an 84 60 series parts truck, mines an 80 40 series...any idea what swaps over??

I'm installing new shoes on the front discs, the PO used the "W" shaped anti rattle springs, but the install kit came with another long slender spring...my FSM doesn't really show a good pic...can anyone tell me the correct orientation? I had two clips holding the two pins in, does the spring...

I'm getting ready to install an ARB and new pinion bearings in my 40 rear housing...before I tie up my buddy's hoist, I noticed no gasket in the kit for the diff to the housing...I have the gasket between the axle housing and the cover, is there another gasket between the diff and the axle...
I have swapped a 5 speed behind my 3B, and I think my rear driveshaft is binding at the slip joint..can anyone measure what you have for the longer part of the rear driveshaft, that is what the short nub slips into, I had to cut mine, i think it is too long and when it articulates, it is driving...
The pinion bearing(s) are shot, you can take the pinion and wiggle it 3/16" in all directions, lots of rumbling on deceleration...

I have snapped my speedo cable now 3 times, 5 speed in a 40, It snaps about 2 in from the transmission...the cable is not stretched, it comes out nice and straight from the transmission, then curves up to the speedo...
