Hello. OK, so I read through this entire thread first, like a good girl. lol
I am in the unfortunate position, right now, of needing to replace or rebuild my stock 1992 FJ80's engine. It's dead, Jim. Hubby says it's a bearing or bearings. Mechanic agrees, says a bearing at least - possibly...
New suspension.
I can't deal with the hardness of it's ride any more.
'Fraid my cruiser's not gonna get much this coming year (2008).
This spring, my 1980 Olds Cutlass Brougham special edition sedan is getting a total off-chassis resto, some QQ plates, and entry into some shows...
So... wait... the cats in my '92 are routed out to the DS front floor area?
*sigh*
Guess I'll have to start searching for a heat shield. Dunno where I'll find one if dealers don't carry them any more.
Thanks for the info, anyway.
Can anybody please post up a pic of one, so I can...
The funny part is that IF I had to buy a replacement vehicle for my old 80, it'd be another Land Cruiser, or a LX -- not an FJ cruiser.
I need a lot more cargo space than the FJ's got.
A smart dealer sales rep should be trying very hard to sell me another Cruiser wagon; that's what I'll...
Thank you for the info, Koffer.
Ah, well, thanks anyway, corsair23. :)
Guess this means that I need not worry about replacing the cat heat shield. And the old running boards will have to do for the present. Once the cutty is finished, I can sink [more] money into the cruiser. :crybaby...
 I don't think there is.
NOTHING on a '92 vehicle in NJ is "not rusted". Nothing!
Mine have 5 bolts, I'm pretty sure. The rearmost one or two is what's rusted & broken loose on mine.
I'd rather replace my running boards with rocker sliders. Perhaps this is the Good...
Thanks. I live mostly in NJ (and that's where my cruiser is)... so I know all about rust belt issues, believe me. :grinpimp:
I welded the hanger (the figure-8 hanger) where the pipes leave the cats over a year ago... June 2006. That's still good; I checked. (It aint pretty, coz I'm no great...
Yes, I'm talking about the heat shield near the cat converter. Sorry. I didn't know there was any other besides that one. :o
I haven't yet removed the running boards, but they're next to go. The PS running board is loose; one of the bolts (or 2?) have broken off...
No, that's not what's...
Questions about two things ---
Finally did something about that rattling old heat shield on my FJ80. It was rusted away so badly that my mechanic doesn't know how it was still actually hanging on.
Once that was removed, no more of that aggravating high-pitched metallic rattle.
I asked...
Dunno if this will help, or not ...... but I helped a friend install a lot of new stereo gear in my '92 FJ80, in late December/early January (don't even ask what-all I put in there:rolleyes:guess I was just in a pimpmobile kinda mood:o), and I've had weird kind of intermittant problems since...
Hi, avidrover. Welcome.
Mine's a '92 FJ80, with 160K miles on the clock. It's given me no real problems, and I've had it since August (the 3rd, I think??) 2005, when it had about 143K miles on in, IIRC. I had to replace a battery last summer and the alternator (the original alternator, mind...
No need for apologies on my account. I'm not quite that thin-skinned. ;)
Now kidpen has offended me with his... bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Okay. So I couldn't even type that with a straight face. :flipoff2:
No one has yet answered my question. (regarding warm-up and tackling...
Okay. So what - in your opinion - is the proper trade-off, given my less-than-usual circumstances, then, Gumby?
When I must go westbound (up First Mountain), to warm it up longer? Or to force it to work hard - rather cold - on a 6% grade at NJ-usual highway speed (ie: approx 70 mph)?
We're...
PDoyle, please remember that my name is Stephanie ;)
(ie: I'm female, and will NOT appreciate - as you all do - any of his such commentary. :flipoff2:)
I should have said that I H8 listening to my truck bitch and whine like my husband every time I bring up the mods I want to do to my...
Question: I must back out of my garage, do a very tight "K-turn" around, and once out of my 90-foot driveway, it's a mere 8 blocks to First Mountain on I-280. First Mountain (a/k/a Orange Mountain -- the first of the three ridges in the Watchung Mountains) is a 6% grade, and one must come to...
Yes, you will need passports. You have time to get those, if you don't already have, but you must start the procedure NOW.
(The Court building over on Court Street in Morristown houses the regional Passport office, first floor, 'round the bend to the right, aaaaaaaaaaall the way down the...
Then you're close.
Feel free to PM me, and arrange to come by and borrow the box of info, and make what trip you wish from it all. You need not do everything that is included, of course; customize it to your amount of time and your tastes. This is a collection-of-a-lifetime lovingly put...
ccov, have you yet planned where else besides Niagra Falls and Toronto you plan/wish to go?
I have just recently been given an entire box full of info on an extended trip meant for a 4x4, from northern NJ up thru Quebec, Labrador City/Wabush, Churchill Falls/Goose Bay, Cartright, Port Hope...
