Anyone ever get the rear wheel bearing seal covers off?

Ok...Before I ask...I know....You aren't supposed to do this. I have almost new wheel bearings (10K miles) and unfortunately, I had ongoing axle seal issues (think it's solved -- used FIPG between seal and the inner race of the axle). I'm not sure how much oil it takes to "wash out the...

Am I putting the seal in backwards?

Sorry for the total newbie question. Rear axle seal on 2003 LX. Trying to figure out why it went from not leaking to leaking badly after I replaced the seals. They are OEM seals. Any chance they are supposed to go in the other direction??

Denso 477-0603 condenser includes receiver / drier ?

Hey guys Discovered the AC leak in my 2003 LX is the condenser and not the compressor. Parts on back order (no biggie...AC works, just has to be topped off periodically) and hoping someone can confirm that Denso 477-0603 includes the receiver drier and I do not have to also order Denso...

Easy way to drain transmission fluid

I changed the transmission fluid today on my 2003 LX470. Once the pan is emptied and refilled, I found it was exceedingly easy to just let the transmission pump out about 2 quarts at a time from the tranny cooler in front. Disconnect the bottom hose from the hard pipe (it has the angled out...

Rear axle outer oil seal...really seals oil?

After having the dealer replace the rear wheel bearings on my 03 LX, I'm having oil leak problems. Tragically, it did not leak before I started messing with it. Unfortunately, I took the dealer axles and not the whole car so their liability isn't what I wish it was. I know they didn't...

Parking brake return spring tension options??

Anyone know how to interpret the various parking brake return choices? In the aftermarket kits, some springs are different colors, in the toyota parts catalog, there are "tension #1, 2, and 3" options. In the factory diagrams this is 46550E. The FSM doesn't seem to offer any guidance and...

    Question on bearing race marks

Anyone know if these lateral marks are an issue for reusing the bearing races? I can't feel anything at all when I run my finder on them. I'm guessing this is when a cruiser sits for a while with the bearings in the same spot?

    100 Series awesome A/C !

Ok so I admit to being a wuss about hot weather and especially the high humidity weather we get here in St Louis. My LX470 today got as low as 39 degree vent temps at 97 outside and brutal humidity. May be the best AC of any car I’ve owned.

    Interior light disable switch ideas

Has anyone worked out how to add an "interior light disable" switch such that from the driver's position, a switch will fully disable all illumination caused by doors opening? I know someone has posted some how-tos on the rear hatch which is definitely a start in the right direction and I am...

Yet Another "What's wrong with my oil pressure gauge" post

If I go buy a new oil pressure sending unit for $45 does anyone think my oil pressure indicator will show higher at warm low idle? It's always above "L" and everyone seems to say "it's OK". I'm trying hard to think it's OK.....It's just so hard.....My Sequoia with the 5.7L V8 barely moves off...

First off roading trip with my 100 series LX470

Hello all! First of all -- thanks to the MUD community for all the info I needed to choose a 100 series and then get it fully current on maintenance and operational (including AHC). I just finished a 2,600 mile trip from St Louis Missouri to Moab Utah including White Rim trail in Canyonlands...

Steering wheel way off center...then corrects?

I've had my 2003 Lexus LX470 with 184K miles for a few months now, all maintenance is done (whew!) and I have one issue that I'm scratching my head on. Normally the steering is fine, nice and tight with a centered steering wheel..Returns to center normally. No issues Twice now though when...

Anyone replaced oil cooler coolant lines?

Starting to reassemble after replacing timing belt. The goal was to replace all rubber coolant/heater parts as well but I'm scratching my head on how to replace the coolant line that runs between the oil cooler and the engine block. See 15777 on the attached diagram. Without removing the...

Fan bracket removal part of timing belt replacement

I'm just about through all of the disassembly for the timing belt replacement on my 03 LX470. I'm kind of stuck on the A/C compressor being in the way of the fan bracket. I've seen this picture which looks like if you remove the front 2 bolts of the compressor, the fan bracket comes out...

How tough are engine accessory bolts

Hey I recently bought an '03 LX470....Good shape overall especially for a mid west truck. 180,000 miles and getting started on the 2nd timing belt change. Lower factory skid plate obvious hasn't been removed since the last timing belt change and bolts are breaking off removing it....Not a...
