I have noticed that my truck cranks for a bit before firing. It cranks strong, ultimately fires, and then runs well. I looked through the FSM but did not find anything related to delayed firing. Any ideas would be appreciated. This is a 1988 FJ62 with electronic fuel injection and a 3FE engine.
This thread prompted me to dig into the rear switch activating the cargo area lamp. I had recently installed LED lights inside and after cleaning the drivers side door switch everything was working... almost. The rear lift gate would not consistently light up the cargo area light when opened...
If you can smell fuel it is more likely the fuel pulsation dampener than the rubber vacuum hoses.
Mine went out and I smelled gas strongly. If it’s out you’ll see lines pulsing and smell gas. Use the FSM. It has good graphics.

Now I'm talking to myself, and in front of everyone. Five years later I replaced the tires with BFG 31's and am happy I did. Shifting makes more sense with the 31's and the brakes are better. The truck still looks good IMHO.
These are tough decisions, good luck. I don't have ideas for budget repairs but think a second opinion makes sense. There are other cruisers out there.
I had this same window smashed and a bag stolen from the back seat. My fault for leaving it visible. Anyway, the local glass shop was able to replace it within a day. Good luck, and sorry that this happened.

I believe the missing bottom bolt worked it's way out over time leaving only the top stud to hold things together, until it didn't hold things together. Or the bottom bolt was left off during some recent work on the vehicle. Either...
