Quinton that thing is awesome! It's a shame about the motor work but it should be a great experience and it'll be good as new when you're done. I just can't wait to see it!

Very nice Q !!!

Did you let the guys over at 4 wheel parts tinker on this one?
There was a white 75 that they were putting on OME lift and detroit locker in last year.
Looked just like yours minus the roof basket.

Either way, great truck and interesting DMV conversation piece im sure :D

Badass!!! I can't wait to go for a ride in it!

agree with above comments, so we aren't to assume that thing just landed there beside that water tower, so how did it arrive? Are you importing? I know I saw mention a while back that someone in NC was working on getting licensing to import these trucks into NC.

At HELLAHAMOM Quinton said it was already legally imported into the country, had a clear FL title and he got it from a guy in FL, no problem registering it in NC. That is my recollection, hopefully he'll chime in.

Sounds like the guy in Boca that imports on a regular basis, he has had two 80's with diesels imported here in the last few months. Something seems very strange about the ability to import and through florida on such a new vehicle but importer seems to have figured it out one way or another.

Does this guy have a web site?

Joe, you have a good memory. I did not import it, just happen to find a guy who was importing one. I don't know how he did it, but he did title it in Fl and then I retitled/registered in NC without any large problems. NC DMV did require to visually inspect it prior to registering-1 phone call to make an appointment, inspector arrived two days later in snow storm, and 30 minutes later my troopy was registered.

not to hijack, but why can't we get other vehicles here that easy? (skyline for example)

My guess would be the skyline was never imported here (although there were a few in cali that were "legally" imported, I knew one of the owners of MotoRX before it was shut down)

The land cruiser was already here and most DMV people couldn't care less what it is. They know the name land cruiser so it doesn't set off as many red flags. A lot of people who import things like this just end up getting lucky.

Because of EPA, NHTSA, and DOT emissions and safety regulations, plain and simple.

Was he out of Miami? I thought I recognized that truck:hhmm:

You got a friend in the East:grinpimp:

Alex, I love your troopy! A friend in the east, probably. I have figured out mine is originally from Australia. Where did yours originate? How do you like the 1HZ? Do you have a turbo?

Have you done any work or mods to yours? Where have you acquired parts? I work with Don from 4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton, Alberta. 4 Wheel Auto Wholesale -LANDCRUISER PARTS

Well, mine is an Aussie also, and he had originally gotten his from Andy in Miami.

as far as parts, some stuff is available from Mr. Yota. I just ordered a new windshield, gasket, timing belt and tensioner from my local dealership. Radd Cruisers and ENS Toyota/Lexus aren't too bad and they specialize in the "exotic" landcruisers. ENS supplies all the parts for the HZJs that they use in the mines in BC. 4 Wheel Auto is Ok too. West Coast Cruisers in San Diego is a good resource too, he's definitely the US connection for 70 series stuff.

The 1HZ is a good motor. I have the Turbo Glide turbo on it, and it helps with the pickup at higher RPMs. It's a smooth running motor, much smoother than my 4BT in the 80 or the 3B that I have in the BJ70.

It's pretty much in the configuration that I got it from the PO, I don't have a whole lot of plans for it, aside from the usual old component replacement routine:p

Little Joe is right on the mark. Heather did some digging to find out what all was involved in importing a land cruiser. By far the biggest issue is that these vehicles must pass inspection by all of those entities and then some. If the vehicle does not pass it must be exported or destroyed. Pretty harsh.

There is also a laundry list of countries that vehicles can not be imported from. So once you find what you want where you want the money involved becomes the issue. These vehicles are not cheap to buy overseas. Tack on title transfer costs at origin, departure taxes, transport of the vehicle, import taxes on this side, title transfer costs on this side, cost to pass inspections. I am sure I missed a couple costs.

The price to the end buyer will be substantial. I think that the best way to find one is start looking for what you want registered somewhere in the US. Hopefully a rich person bought it in the 80s or 90s and it has passed through several owners. I think that is the best way to find one at a reasonable price. They are out there, just take a lot of research.

There are some exceptions in the NHTSA rules about very specific cases of vehicles that can be imported at less than 25 yrs of age. It's almost a maze to follow, and if I read it correctly there is the opportunity to import some 90's and newer Cruisers. However, I have put it to a cousin of mine who has his J.D. and works for a huge importer on the West Coast - to see if 1) my reading comprehension skills are still there and 2) whether his firm could help.

The big thing is the 25% chicken tax on all foreign made trucks...
