Put the rear diff on yesterday. For better or worse I torqued the nuts to 34 ft-lbs. I couldn't find a value anywhere in the '77 FSM but the Mud brain trust referenced that number in many places. Installed the new oil seals and then tried to...
Just make sure that you don't wind up with the steel retaining ring rims (unless of course you want them). They were an OEM choice for your Troopy according to the part's diagram. I have them on my KSA 45 Troopy and KSA FZJ75 pickup and plan on...
Thank you, I have seen some of these for sale on marketplace but usually in Ontario. $100 for the rim and Dunlop.
I have watched a few videos on wide vs narrow tires. The 235/85 seems to be the best choice as many have mentioned.
If the younger crowd can’t wait for you to pass it down they can always get a Fluke 62+ or (more spendy) Fluke 566.
“If it works, it’s a Fluke!”

Yes you are correct but there are a few work arounds..
I have this old dinosaur that I believe I've had for 35 plus years, they were quite expensive when they first came out but I felt it was worth the money for what I was doing at the time...
I could have been a bit hasty in implying they were readily available in the US. Partsouq has them but shipping would be excessive.
https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=42610-60320
Edit: $161 each but shipping is over $100 per. Here's what...
Nice Troopy. Congratulations. Looks like the original 5.5 x 16 is still available. Part number 42610-60320. Looks like they can be had for under $200 each....at least south of the 49th Parallel.
IIRC it was around $750 but that included the frame and a box of smallish parts that bolt to the frame. The chemical cleaning and derusting was 2x that. If you want to read a bit more and/or ask more you might do it in this thread. Chemical...
FWIW, I just had my 55 frame chemically cleaned and derusted (total immersion process), e-coated (total immersion process), and finally powder coated. The e-coating in itself is a very robust coating which doesn't really need powder except that...
I'm working on a 40 frame off and struggling with whether or not to powder coat or paint
I've seen a lot of instances where powder coated parts chip and water gets in and rusts/lifts off the powder coating eventually.
The flip side with paint...
All I have to say :
- We have Miller 255s up at BIO, and I just leave them set to whatever they were set at. 💩is confusing, yo. Also, I produce software for my “real job”, and I fear getting distracted and annoyed by some obvious flaw in the...
I would return for a full refund. It's a mix of years and when you, or your mechanic, need parts that's going to be an issue. If in a few years your infatuation with it wears off and you try to sell it you'll likely loose money. Get the refund...
I went and laid hands on mine. It's in the "to be sand blasted and powder coated" pile. The steering box bolts onto the backside. In fact, that's the steering box bracket. It just doubles as a shock tower.
I'm getting ShortE sorted out to put up for sale. I have other Saudi trucks inbound I need to pay for and enjoy a while like I did this one.
My list of goofy stuff I need to fix.
The clutch springs were worn. Done.
The speedometer cable...
Do they have a way to get the powder inside the channel? That's one concern that motivated me to e-coat before powder. I asked my powder guy about a long wand, etc. but he just gave me a rather long reply which translated to "no".
