Did you do the water test for vacuum leaks and checked the PCV?

I can do 70 mph, easy. Must be the 3.73 gear ratio that helps.

Since the solenoid is good, I will try the resolder/ground option first if it the connection starts acting up again. Took the 40 for a ride today, no idling issue but I can feel hesitation upon acceleration. New primary Jet (in the pic) or Carb needs a tuneup?

Wouldnt it introduce a dieseling issue? if not, what is the purpose of it?

Finally got back to my 40, could not locate my VOM but found out that both (- and +) were dead :hhmm: Tried to trace it, and as soon as i touched the emission control box, I heard a click. Wiggling the box continued to produce the clicking. I took the box off, reconnected and put it back...

81 FJ40 does not idle. Don't hear it click when turning the vehicle on. Don't hear it click when leaving the vehicle on and connecting and disconencting the soleneoid. However, do hear it click when connecting to the battery. Engine Fuse is intact. What to do Next?

I went through this effort on my 81 FJ40 a few weeks back. Here are the steps I took, most were required since the narrow end of the tank (right) is pinched between the body and the frame. After draining, unhooking all fuel/vacuum lines and gauge sensor... Lifted the back of the vehicle...

I cleaned up the PCV but even prior it was clicking, could blow up, not down. So does not look like that was the issue. Carb is ready to be installed back, let’s see how that goes, did not find anything suspicious during the rebuild. will continue my quest, Will keep you posted. I realized how...

Although I am putting the carb back now but I am now thinking the issue might be with the sticking PCV in the first place, forum had a lot of great info!!! I am saying it is the PCV based on the fact that some days it starts up fine and idles like a champ, on other days it does not idle at all...
