i just did a similar thing to a 76 block. Pistons were somewhat protected with the head still on the block but the rings were rusted into the cylinder walls. The machine shop soaked the block for several days and then was able to remove the pistons, crankshaft and cam. I tried to do it myself...
The 1976 2F FSM shows a different size for each of the 4 crankshaft journal bearings, #1 being the smallest in diameter, but the photo does not show the oil ports. It appears that numbers 1, 2, and 3 all have oil ports in the upper half of each bearing that fits into the cap, even though the...
Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions. If I do it, i will definitely modify the receiver to bolt up to the frame and not the rear cross member. All the other cautions are well noted. Maybe pitching a tent or sleeping on the roof rack isn't so bad after all.
Does anyone have experience in pulling a travel trailer with an FJ-40? My 1975 FJ-40 LVKCJA has a 2 1/2" lift, 4-speed, 4:11 diffs, 31" tires, standard non-power steering, drum brakes, and a 200hp+ fuel injected 2F. The engine, transmission, diffs, and running gear have all been rebuilt...
Thank you very much for your reply - I really did suspect that oil was better than grease - why did Toyota use it in the first place if it was not?! Now, i have to figure out what to do with the one on the car and the one on my dinning room table, both with grease.
I have a March/1975 FJ-40 with the original manual steering gear box. it began to leak so i had it "rebuilt" in a shop in Phoenix - they returned it to me filled with grease instead of oil, but rather than drive from Flagstaff all the way back to Phoenix, i installed it. Even tho it feels...
I am using the factory or OEM fuel pressure regulator and I can hear the fuel returning to the tank, especially when the tank is low. The photo is a great help. I can see that the pump is mounted in the horizontal position and I had mine mounted in the vertical. That probably just made the...
I recently built, with the help of a friend, a 2F-EFI for a 75 FJ-40. I've driven it about 5,000 miles and it runs very well. The fuel injection is supplied by an external Mallory 4060FI fuel pump mounted to the frame just forward of the rear axel, slightly above the fuel tank outlet. The...
