78 Prados are really reliable like any other LC as long as you maintain it well. 1kz does heat up quick on steep hills with AC on, and 7 passengers inside. Just install good radiator and monitor your EGTs. It's a fun machine to own. Very capable too.

the downside is that your RPM (tachometer) wont work. i have not figured it out yet as of now, so im getting inaccurate reading from the alternator to make the tach work

i did few search here and watched others who posted videos of their swap then jumped on to doing it myself after having last resort already just to make my rig drivable. i just gave up on the electronic chaos and fear of breakdown over and over. it has become a good money pit to save the EFI...

i did a 1kzte swap on my lj78 few months ago, i have given up the dream of keeping it electronically controlled after so many breakdown and expensive repairs for possible faulty sensor and mainly the injection pump itself. with no error codes, the engine just refused to start. swapped working...

Wow that is quite expensive. Thats like buying another surplus ecu here, but with no assurance when the caps are going to get bad again with surplus ecu. The cost of repair here in the Philippines is about 65 usd to 90 usd depending on the damage.

Just an update, i just got the ecu back. It fires right up, and no loud knock noise anymore during cold start.

It ran well for a week,.

Engine finally running... But sounds like fuel knock when the engine is cold.. 😔 The wiring is a mess... I have not yet finalized everything.. Just a quick setup to see if it runs

Moved the engine mount a bit.. And used 2lte engine support

Slow progress on the build.. Still cutting the oilpan for now. The 1kd and 1kz has similar pattern for the oilpan.

The 2lte tcm vs 1kz tcm both 26 pin but not interchangeable...

Ash awbery, the thing is, bith ecu and tcm are entangled in one harness.. Really a pain to trace and separate the ecu wires from 2lte. I might be able to finish the engine swap nextweek as well. Im still stuck with oilpan problem. This is the one that should clear d diff.. One from prado 90 kz...
