    Custom soft top for LJ

Yes.. Just have a few out on the road and getting ready to ship about 20 tops. Just putting together an installation video. The bad news is that they take a long time to make and are expensive but they turned out really nicely. www.americanconvoy.com. We have a large backlog right now but...

    Custom soft top for LJ

It's a very heavy sailcloth top and ties on tightly so it does not flap. Did you visit the website? Glad you like it!

    Custom soft top for LJ

Wow, I had forgotten I put this up here. I was helping someone with their soft top design for their FJ40 and I mentioned my top so they asked me to put the info up. That's a great looking LJ. Yes, these are finally on their way later this year. Here is the website: www.americanconvoy.com...

Trying to find an older thread...

it was of a frame-off 40. It was a camel color and he painted the bows for the soft top camel as well. It was definitely one of the most beautiful cruisers I have ever seen. I believe he sold it right after only to start on a new project. Anyone know the link? It was here on mud.

making your own soft top.. because lets be honest.. you've built everything else

I believe sailrite carries a plastic (white), somewhat flexible version of the C channel as well as an aluminum version similar to what they use for awnings on RVs. I don't think they carry the rubber welt though.

The welt shown here is 1/4" diameter which goes into a corresponding 3/8" (inner diameter) C channel. This is the combo I recommend- works great.

Here is a pic of what I use. I picked it up from tempe sales which is a local fabric shop.

Just an FYI- The piece that you are describing as a rope is known as a "welt" or "welting". They can be purchased as a premolded rubber that can simply be sewn in or you can buy the "rope" or welting which you insert between the fabric and sew around it. I recommend the rubber welt since it...

Saw two 40s in Tucson today...

I hardly ever see 40s around Phoenix and was surprised to see two nice cruisers in Tucson in one day. They were both nice- one was mustard yellow with a hard top and the other was more of a desert khaki with a slight greenish ting... Anyone from Mud?

Creative way to connect factory soft top to tub w/o drilling holes?

Nevermind, I was looking at this last night while I couldn't sleep with a tiny iphone and the brightness turned way down so as not to wake my wife. I see the answer to my question is visible in the pics. Nice work.

Creative way to connect factory soft top to tub w/o drilling holes?

Your idea on the cage is similar to what I made for my jeep. I am curious- on the rear corners, there is typically two 45 degree bends on the standard soft top bow/uprights which do two things: (1) Gives an offset so that it can be fastened inside the tub rail (which you have alleviated) and (2)...

    Custom soft top for LJ

Edit:Thanks. Yes actuallty.... They will be produced, but there will be some sticker shock since the jeep community is used to being able to purchase very inexpensive soft tops made in China at very low prices. There are several reasons for these low prices (besides being made in china). The...

    Builds Intro: Ugly Betty(so far)

I just wanted to say that this is one of my favorite cruisers of all time-great job. Couple of questions.. What type of material did you use for the top? I am trying to find some canvas looking material that won't stretch or fade too quickly. How do you like it? Also, what is the bag on...
