Thanks guys. I did get a battery and it turned over. I am STOKED! Getting really close to getting my 40 started for the first time. If I had more money I would start ordering lots of parts :)

crotalusatrox....how about just a couple

My 74 40 won't turn over. I can turn the flywheel by hand and the starter is brand new and good. Everything comes on and the starter engages but won't turn the flywheel. I am not using a battery. Just a charger in "start engine" mode. Any ideas? Tim

I had my starter check and they said it was fine. Installed it just clicks like it doesn't want to quite engage. Maybe the throw out is bad?? Wishing it had been running when I got it.

ok, I did the marvel thing. It sat and I did it again. I pried at the flywheel with a pry bar and it will go around but pretty hard. I even pulled the plugs and it is the same. What am I doing wrong?

I thought that might be the case since the BH to tranny is 47.

I did my grunting getting the old housing off. It came off in 4 pieces. :lol:

I couldn't find it. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

I thought ground problem. Fuse panel looks like crap. I will go through that shortly. all great suggestions.

I tested the starter. It is good. Mj FJ is a 74. It has the single F motor but the 4 speed tranny.
