I replaced the hardware but just make sure you clean everything up real good and make sure they’re still serviceable if you decide to reuse. Like not rusted or damaged.
Electrical Wiring Diagram.
It took me a while to find a copy but it’s been really helpful.
FWIW, I had no idea I had rear speakers until I bothered to look back there and at the diagram. Was so busy tackling other squawks on the truck that it wasn’t even in my list of priorities till I...
I never found where the original door speaker wires were in mine. PO clearly just added additional wires to the head to power the door speakers. My rig was down for 2+ weeks so once I got those speakers working, I gave up and buttoned everything back. Once I figure out the amp situation, I’m...
Ok guys, just to close this thread and possibly help somebody else out in the future, here's what worked for me:
Took a 9v battery and ran the posts against the mystery blue speaker wires that were connected to the previous aftermarket harness. Heard some statics so that confirmed these wires...
I’ve got plenty of wire on the harness, but might try to splice that front speaker out from the deck to the door also if I can’t quickly figure out the root issue
Yeah the doors speakers do not look well connected (see pic above). I pulled up the carpet and replaced with new and sound deadener last year, so now aftermarket amp. And previous aftermarket stereo and door speakers were working fine after I put everything back together.
I’m confident I soldered the new stereo and Metra harnesses correctly. I haven’t proven it yet but I agree with you on the PO hacked the wires theory. The previous aftermarket stereo/Metra harness is missing the designated front speaker connections (gray and white wires were taped up), but the...
So I think my course of action is to try and trace the blue wire to see if it’s going to the door speakers and also the speaker wires at the door back to see to the harness and try to figure out why those speakers are not pumping out sound.
If I understand the diagrams correctly, if there’s...
It’s possible. There’s some extra blue wire in harness area that was spliced into the old aftermarket stereo harness and the wiring to the door looks like a disaster.
Serious question, why would somebody do this? For an amp or something?
You ever figure this out? I don't have a curious wiring situation but I'm only getting sound to my knee speakers and rear roof speakers with a 2-connector Metra harness (amp bypassed).
How did you identify the short? I've got sound to my rear roof speakers and front knee speakers but no sound to the door speakers. Sony XAV-AX100 with the Metra amp bypass harness.
Thanks, this was really helpful. I figured out that I need to just work with those 2 gray connectors you pointed out. So I've got power to my new stereo, but sound going only to the knee (front) speakers and the rear roof speakers. No sound to the door speakers. I'll double check the amp to make...
